Abstract
1,050,082. Moulding thermoplastic tubing; tubular films. M. YAZAWA. May 7, 1963 [May 8, 1962], No. 17917/63. Headings B5A and B5B. In a method of 2-dimensionally stretching a moulded thermoplastic pipe or a tubular film, the pipe or tube 2 extruded from a die 1 is cooled and set (by passage through a cooling tank 4 and by introducing cooling liquid thereinto via a tube 8) and passed into a heating tank 19 (through which hot liquid is circulated) where it is inflated by heated pressure liquid discharged through orifices 18 in a feed pipe 16 into the space between two cylindrical plugs 11, 22 over which the tube 22 passes with small clearances permitting controlled leakages of pressure liquid to regulate the inflation pressure. The tube 2 is fed through the apparatus by rollers 3, 26, the rollers 26 being rotated at a higher speed than the rollers 3 to effect the required longitudinal stretching of the tube 2. The plugs 11, 22 may be grooved circumferentially or coated with porous material to increase the resistance to fluid flow thereof. In an alternative method thermoplastic tubing is drawn over a single cylindrical plug only and a tubing section between a pair of nip rollers and the plug is heated and inflated.
