Abstract

A poly-(pivalolactone/a ,a - diethylpropcolactone) (85/15 mol. per cent) copolymer is made by refluxing a ,a -diethyl propcolactone with pivalolactone in a benzene solution of the tetrabutylammonium salt of hexyl dimethylacetic acid, and precipitating the polymer in alcohol. A poly-(pivalolactone/a ,a -diethylpropcolactone) (97.5/2.5 mol. per cent) copolymer is made by refluxing a mixture of pivalolactone and a ,a -diethylpropcolacton in a hexane solution of triethylenediamine containing titanium dioxide. A composition is disclosed of a copolyamide of hexamethylene diamide, adipic acid, sebacic acid and caprolactam (10%) and polypivalolactone (90%). The polymer is collected by filtration. Filaments are melt-spun from the copolymers (see Division B5).
