Abstract

A sound damping supported or unsupported bituminous sheet is bonded by one indented, recessed and/or perforated face coated with an acrylate pressure-sensitive adhesive to a sheet metal panel of a motor vehicle, washing machine, spin drier, dish-washer, sink, transformer, cistern, railway carriage or locomotive or to a pipe. The sheet may be supported by natural or synthetic fibres or bituminised felt and may comprise oxidized bitumen, meal or fibrous asbestos and/or slate powder with or without a softening agent or fluxing oil together with a synthetic thermo-plastic resin, e.g. polyolefin, p.v.c., vinylchloride copolymer or rubber. The adhesive is fixed by holding the metal panel and sheet at 150-200 DEG C. for 3-5 mins. The recesses and indentations in the adhesive face are in communication with the edge to exclude air on bonding and the sheet may be bonded to oily panels.
