Abstract

Linear amorphous sulphur-curable terpolymers are obtained by terpolymerizing two different mono-alpha-olefines with an alkenyl-cycloalkene using a catalyst comprising a compound of a transition metal of Groups IVb or Vb (Derning Table) and an aluminium hydride soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, said aluminium hydride having the formula AlHXY where X and Y are hydrogen, halogen or <FORM:1045293/C3/1> groups, R1 and R2 being alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, cycloalkyl or the nitrogen atom may form part of a heterocyclic molecule. The aluminium hydride may be complexed with a Lewis base. Lists of catalysts components are given. In the examples ethylene, propylene and 4-vinyl-cyclohexene-1 are terpolymerized using vanadium or titanium tetrachloride and one of the following:-HCl2Al.O(C2H5)2; HAl.BrN(CH3)2; H2Al.N(CH3)2 and H3Al.N(CH3)3.
