Abstract

1,039,278. Clarinets. BOOSEY & HAWKES Ltd. March 31, 1965 [March 14, 1964], No. 15405/64. Heading G5J. In the usual Boehm system clarinet, pressure on any of the F, F# and E finger rings 11, 12 and 13 keeps the G valve which is coupled to them closed. Difficulties arise when playing F# because of the necessity to keep F covered in order to keep the G valve closed. The present invention removes this difficulty by providing an additional vent 24 in the F position, the valve 23 of which is opened by the release of pressure on the F# ring so that the tone is corrected although the F ring is covered to maintain the G valve closed. This is effected by making the shaft 15 hollow so that the F# ring rotates an inner shaft to control valve 23. A stop is also provided on ring 11 so that when it is pressed it rotates outer shaft 15 to close the G valve.
