Abstract

1,038,663. Piston packing. J. MERCIER. Feb. 18, 1963, No. 6519/63. Headings F2B and F2T. Piston packing comprises three resilient sealing rings 24, 25 and 26 disposed in axially spaced grooves 21, 22 and 23 respectively, each of the outer rings 24 and 25 being formed on its side remote from the central ring 26 with a pair of lips 28, 29. The central ring 26 is an 0-ring and the rings 24 and 25 have axial freedom in their grooves 21 and 22. The invention is shown in Fig. 1 applied to an hydraulic accumulator, the grooves 21, 22 and 23 being in a piston 16 that divides the cylinder 11 into a gas chamber 17 and a liquid chamber 18. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), for an hydraulic jack the sealing rings are housed in grooves in the cylinder wall.
