[Also in Divisions A5 and B7] A stretcher-bed 1 for an ambulance is resiliently supported by spring cushion suspension units 19 on cross-members 15 of a sub-frame 9. The cross-members 15 are mounted on the sub-frame 9 by swing- ing links 16, 17 which may be raised from the lowered position shown to a position in which rubber blocks 22 on the stretcherbed will engage bearing surfaces 21 on additional cross-bars 20 provided on the sub-frame 9. The rubber blocks 22 reinforce the spring cushion suspension units 19 to provide a more rigid suspension system so that the stretcher-bed may be used as a seat by a plurality of persons. Guard rails 3, 4 are lockable in the position shown or in an inoperative vertical position below the stretcher-bed by means of dog-clutches 5, 6 held in register by a spring 7.
