Abstract

1,033,377. Wheel. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. April 23, 1963 [May 10, 1962], No. 17938/62. Heading B7C. A wheel comprises a hollow shell of rigid thermoplastic synthetic resin consisting of two dish-shaped mouldings 3, 4 whose radially outward portions 6, 7 are turned axially inwards and joined to form a convex rolling surface 1, the mouldings not touching anywhere else. The mouldings may have depressions 14, 15, as shown, and low shoulders may be moulded on to retain a peripheral band of vulcanized rubber or flexible plastic. Otherwise the mouldings are of uniform thickness and, apart from the depressions and the wheel periphery, are flat. An axle bush 13 may be nylon or metal. The mouldings may be formed and joined in one process or may be formed separately by injection or compression moulding, blow-moulding or vacuum-forming and joined by welding, riveting, bolts or adhesives. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene or an acrylonitrile/butadiene/ styrene copolymer. The wheel is suitable for toys or light trolleys.
