Abstract

The water-proofing compositions described and claimed in the parent Specification are modified by inclusion therein of a salt formed by the reaction of an organic base, e.g. pyridine, di-n-butylamine, piperidine and triethylamine, with an organic acid, e.g. acetic, propionic and hexoic acids, the salt decomposing, at least partially, to yield a free base at a temperature below 160 DEG C. An optional modification comprises the use of a mono-organo substituted cyanuric halide in making the organosilicon reactant and/or mixture.ALSO:The process of water-proofing porous and fibrous materials, as described and claimed in the parent Specification, is modified by inclusion in the treating composition of a salt of an organic base with an organic acid, the salt decomposing, at least partially, at a temperature below 160 DEG C to yield a free base and promote bonding of the organosilicon compound to the material through the cyanucic linkage. In Example (4) a sample of cotton was treated with a crease-resistant resin (a mixture of urea/formaldehyde and a melamine/formaldehyde resin) prior to treatment with the waterproofing composition.
