Abstract

1,031,577. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. May 10, 1965 [July 24, 1964], No. 29806/64. Heading F2A. In a roller bearing, one of the races has a grooved track for the rollers and the other race has a plain track for the rollers, so as to allow relative axial movement between the races. The roller bearing may be mounted in a self-aligning ball bearing or a self-aligning ball bearing may be mounted in the roller bearing. In an embodiment, a bearing arrangement comprises a roller bearing, the inner race 26 of which has a plain track for the rollers and the outer race 27 of which has a grooved track to receive the rollers and also serves as the inner race of a self-aligning ball bearing 28, 29, the latter being mounted in a housing 13. Also mounted in the housing 13 is a bearing arrangement which comprises a roller bearing, the inner race 14, 15 and the outer race 19 both having grooved tracks to receive rollers 18 therein. The outer race 19 serves as the inner race of a self-aligning ball bearing 20, 21, having an outer race 22 received in the housing 13. A shaft 10, having shoulders 11, 12, is mounted in the roller bearings and is free to bend and expand as required. Heat and dirt shields are provided for the bearings.
