The pressure of the fuel supplied by a feed pump 2 to the fuel injection pump 3 is controlled by a centrifugally actuated valve 23 controlling communication between the inlet 30 and outlet 31 of the feed pump. The pump may be primed when a passage in the valve interconnects the inlet and outlet when the pump is stationary.
