Abstract
1,026,086. Automatic fuel vending. WAYNE TANK & PUMP CO. Ltd. Oct. 8, 1964 [Oct. 10, 1963] No. 39981/63. Heading G4V. A liquid fuel dispenser comprises a pump, a register with resetting mechanism, and a coin or bank note freed switch initiating pump operation, the resetting mechanism being operated by a fluid ram subject to pump pressure and including a cam rotatable with the pump motor, and opening a fuel valve on completion of resetting, a preset mechanism operating a switch to de-energize the pump motor when a predetermined quantity of fuel has been dispensed. Insertion of a coin or note energizes a relay which holds itself on and energizes the pump motor, which also drives gear 20 meshing with gear 19 freely mounted on a " resetting " shaft. When ram 27 is extended by pump pressure, the ram clutches gear 19 to the shaft, thus causing resetting of the register, and rotation of cam 24. On completion of resetting, lever 13 is rotated by the cam, and held by engagement of flange 15 in a cut-away portion of lever 17. Lever 13 closes a microswitch 11, which energizes a further relay, to de-energize the first relay, and energize the pump motor through further contacts. The further relay opens a fuel flow valve. When fuel delivery is complete, the preset mechanism operates lever 29 and link 30 to pull lever 17 to release lever 13, which is rotated by spring 14 to open switch 11 and de-energize the pump motor. In an alternative, the fuel supply valve is operated mechanically by lever 13, and switch 11 is operated directly by the preset mechanism. Lever 13 is released from lever 17 by shaft 32 and lever 31 rotated by the ram 27.
