1,025,728. Anchor-bolts; determining tension in rock bolts; washers. C. I. WILLIAMS. Oct. 27, 1964 [Nov. 6, 1963], No. 43848/64. Heading F2H. [Also in Division G1] A rod 21 is secured at one end in the inner end of a tubular bolt 11 (anchored at the inner end in a hole 13 in rock formation) to determine the tension in the bolt, e.g. by measuring the distance between a reference head 25 on the rod and the outer end of a ring 26 in the outer end of the bolt, in stressed and unstressed conditions of the bolt. Subsequent changes in tension are used to detect rock displacement. A screwed cap normally protects the ring 26 but is removed when a depth indicator 31 with probe 33 and plate 34 is to be applied for measurement. The inner end of the tubular bolt 11 is anchored in the hole, e.g. by rotation of the bolt, and tubes 28, 29 for the introduction of grouting cement are inserted through openings 17, 18 in a bearing plate 15, Fig. 2. The openings 17, 18 may be separated from the central hole 16. Synthetic resin 30 is packed in the hole mouth to seal it. A nut 19 and washers 20 are tightened against the plate 15.
