Abstract

The invention comprises a bis-(hydroxyphenyl)alkane, in particular 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxy phenyl)propane, containing 0.0001-0.005 wt. per cent of a colour stabilizer which is oxalic, citric or tartaric acid or an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof. In an example, the bisphenol is made by reacting phenol with acetone and HCl and the stabilizer is added before the product is isolated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 890,432.
