Abstract
1,016,239. Cleaning floors and windows. ELECTROLUX Ltd. June 18, 1964 [July 23, 1963], No. 25251/64. Heading A4F. In a floor cleaning apparatus compressed air from the exhaust of a suction cleaner is fed through a tubular handle 18 to an ejector nozzle 16 in the end portion 17 of a housing 10, and part of the air flow passes through an aperture 25 (Fig. 5, not shown) in the nozzle 16, and through a tube 24 (not shown) to the space above cleaning liquid in a container 12, whereby cleaning liquid is forced through a pipe 19 and a groove 20 (not shown) to the lower edge of the nozzle 16 to be atomised and carried by the compressed air through a diffuser tube 14 to be discharged on to the floor. After an area of the floor has been moistened the handle 18 is turned to rotate a valve sleeve 15 to cover the groove 20 to discontinue the feed of cleaning liquid. The floor is then rubbed by the resilient porous lips 31 of a suction nozzle 27, and after this treatment the handle 18 is turned into a third position in which the sleeve 15 closes the groove 20, the aperture 25, and openings 22 in the housing portion 17, whereby a strong suction is produced within the latter to draw air and dirty cleaning liquid through the suction nozzle 27, and a pipe 33, the liquid falling into a container 13 after striking a baffle 34, and the air passes through a passage 36 and an annular gap 11 to mix with the air to be discharged through the diffuser pipe 14 on to the floor to assist the drying of the latter. A floatable material 39 which prevents foaming may be placed in the container 3. A modified apparatus for cleaning windows is described in which the suction nozzle is at the upper end and the feed pipe for compressed air at the lower end.
