Abstract

1,015,652. Making waveguides. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 6, 1964 [Sept. 9, 1963], No. 35517/63. Heading B3A. A method of constructing a fixed metallic structure, e.g. a waveguide assembly, includes the steps of positioning a male jig between parts to be joined, clamping the parts of the male jig so that it retains its shape, removing the jig and inserting it in a female jig, adjusting the latter to the shape of the male jig, constructing a coupling member corresponding thereto and assembling the coupling member in the structure. The male jig comprises telescopic tubes 1, 2, 3 and end-plates 10, 10<SP>1</SP> which are universally mounted on the ends of tubes 1, 3, respectively. When the plates 10, 10<SP>1</SP> have been bolted to the end flanges of the waveguide members, clamps 5, 8 are secured and bolts 13 lightened to lock the universal joints. The present invention allows for the accurate manufacture of the final section of a waveguide assembly without recourse to measurement.
