Abstract

1,014,510. Pipe couplings. SPEMBLY Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964, No. 44071/64. Addition to 999,325. Heading F2G. The male member 1 of a quickly detachable coupling is made of plastics material, such as polyformaldehyde, has a flanged end 2 and a reinforcing flanged metallic ring 3, e.g. of stainless steel, the flange of which abuts the plastics flange 2. The coupling is for fire hose which is damped to ribbed ends of the coupling members. A female member receiving the member 1 is of two parts 7, 8 of plastics material, preferably polyformaldehyde, one part 8 of which has diametrically opposed projections 11 receiving spring-loaded metal plungers 12 adapted to engage the metal ring of the male member to maintain the two members coupled together. A tubular sleeve 16 surrounds the projection 11 and receives the end of the plunger to allow the members to be released when the sleeve is pulled outwardly. A circumferential recess in the part 7 receives a joint ring 10.
