Abstract

1,011,993. Cleaning wheels. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Sept. 1, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 35697/64. Heading B7J. An arrangement for cleaning compactor wheels upon a tractor comprises a transverse bar 24 pivotally mounted by brackets 25 and 26 and having a series of arms 22 in V formation, each arm having a cleaner blade 16 for penetration between the compactor feet 14. Thd cleaning device may be moved from the position shown, with the lower blades tangential to the wheel surface and in which the device is operative for forward movement, to a position where the upper blades are tangential to the wheel surface, for cleaning when moving in reverse, by a pair of hydraulic jacks connected between the tractor and the bar 24 under the control of a lever which may be connected by a member 41 to a forward-reverse gear shift lever 40. Adjustable stops 34 may be provided for limiting the pivotal movement of the bar 24. A modified arrangement is shown applied to the front wheels 10, a series of V- shaped cleaner blades 42 being pivoted to a bar 45 which automatically assume a working position according to the direction of motion and whose pivotal movement is limited by stops 44, 45.
