Abstract

A process for the production of n-paraffin fractions having a purity of at least 99% by weight comprises treating a petroleum fraction with a 5 <\>rA molecular sieve in known manner to recover an intermediate product containing at least 90%, preferably 95%, by weight of n-paraffins and reprocessing with a 5 <\>rA molecular sieve in known manner to give a fraction containing less than 1%, preferably 0.1%, by weight of isoparaffins and napthenes, wherein either the intermediate product or the low isoparaffin/napthene fraction is de-aromatized, for example by hydrogenation, adsorption in silica gel, alumina or bauxite, or by oleum washing, to obtain the desired n-paraffin product.
