Abstract
1,009,239. Valves. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd. Jan. 2, 1964 [Feb. 11, 1963], No. 5461/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A valve for controlling the discharge of condensate from a compressed air reservoir comprises a body 1 having a drain chamber 4, in constant communication with reservoir, and a discharge chamber 7, having an inlet 8 and an outlet 10. An inlet valve 9 loaded by a spring to the closed position has a stem 9a and an outlet valve 12, also loaded by a spring, has a stem 12a. A valve actuating mechanism 14 comprises a tube member 18 which receives a threaded cup member 19 having an apertured partition wall 19a. The tube member is surrounded by a sleeve 20 slidable in a portion 13 of the housing and the sleeve 20 and members 18, 19 clamp these members to diaphragms 15 and 16. The pressure in chamber 7 acts equally on the outer sides of the diaphragms and the upper diaphragm is subjected to an intermittent pressure supplied through a pipe 24 to reciprocate the actuating means whereby the valve 10 is closed prior to the opening of valve 9 to allow the condensate to flow into discharge chamber 7 and the valve 9 closes prior to the opening of valve 10 to discharge the condensate to atmosphere. The pressure to pipe 24 may be controlled by applying the brakes or by a governor valve of a compressor when the reservoir is in a braking system.
