Abstract
1,008,425. Grinding; machine tool details. MIXING & SEPARATING EQUIPMENT Ltd. July 8, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 36978/62. Headings B3B, B3D and B3V. Apparatus for supplying liquid to a workface during a machining operation comprises a high pressure pump for feeding the liquid to the work-face, means for collecting liquid from the work-face, centrifuge means for separating foreign matter from the collected liquid, and means for controlling the temperature of the collected liquid which is then fed by the pump to the work-face. In apparatus for form grinding a screwthreading tap with threads of very fine pitch, liquid, e.g. oil, is fed under high pressure between the work-face and the grinding wheel contact. Oil returning from the work-face is collected by way of conduits 2 in a housing 3 and passed to centrifuge means 4, cleaned oil discharging into a container 5, tank 6 and sump 7. The sump 7 is positioned centrally of the housing, so that oil in the sump is surrounded by oil in the housing thereby providing a heat insulating layer. A heat exchange coil 8 in the sump 7 is connected to a heat pump 9 to receive heated or cooled medium from the pump depending on the direction of operation thereof. The oil passes from the sump to a motor-driven rotary pump 1, which delivers the oil at high pressure, e.g. 1000 p.s.i., to the workface. A pump 1a is also provided for supplying oil at low pressire when high pressure is not required, e.g. for feeding to an open work-face, i.e. during milling, turning &c., or when chemical or electrical erosion is being performed. The heat exchange coil may be disposed within the container 5 and a heat insulating layer may be provided round the centrifuge means. Separate heater and cooler may be employed.
