In a liquid manure distributing apparatus, for coupling to a tractor, to fill a tank 8 a vacuum is created in the tank by connecting the suction side of an air pump 11, Fig. 2, driven by the tractor power take off shaft, to the tank by means of a valve 14 and a pipe 22. To expel liquid the valve is positioned to connect the pump outlet side to the tank. Fig. 5A shows the filling position of the valve where a pump outlet port 18 is in communication, via a groove 27 in a rotatable valve cap, with a port 19 which is in communication with atmospheric pressure, and a pump inlet port 16 is linked via a groove 27 to a tank port 17. Fig. 5b shows the liquid expulsion position of the valve cap to which the cap is spring urged. To prevent overfilling there is provided a ball float 31 coupled to a pointer and to an adjustable trip linkage 30, 33, 34 which engages a projection 29 on the valve cap during filling and disengages when the tank is full allowing the spring to move the valve cap to the expulsion position thus breaking the vacuum. Alternatively a conventional float valve may be provided on the tank to break the vacuum, and the valve 14 may be manually operated i.e. without the trip means. The discharge outlet, Fig. 1 (not shown), is manually operated, and the discharged manure impinges on a rotary distributer plate driven via gearing and a clutch from the tractor power take-off shaft.
