Abstract

A process for the production of a foamed vinyl aromatic polymer article comprises steam-heating particles of a vinyl aromatic polymer containing a volatile blowing agent to form foamed beads, treating these beads with a hot gas under conditions in which the beads preserve their separate entities and moulding the treated beads into the foamed article. In an example, the polymer is polystyrene, the blowing agent pentane and the gas air.
