A wall tie of synthetic plastics material has a shank 17 formed with one or more transverse ribs 16 to prevent the passage of water along the shank. The shank, which is circular or oval in cross-section has a smooth polished surface to prevent adhesion thereto of mortar droppings. Forked wall-engaging portions 10 are perforated or roughened or provided with ribs 11, and the end portions are turned to provide flanges 14, 15.
