Abstract
The invention comprises azo dyes free from carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups of formula <FORM:1001741/C4-C5/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic radical which may be substituted and which may be united with ring A, R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group, the ring A may be substituted or contain a condensed-on benzene ring, R3 is an alkyl or aralkyl radical, X\sK is an anion, m is 0 or 1 and n is 3 or 4. The dyes are prepared by coupling the diazo compound of an amine of formula <FORM:1001741/C4-C5/2> with a coupling component of formula <FORM:1001741/C4-C5/3> and if desired alkylating or aralkylating the dye obtained. The non-quaternized dyes (i.e. wherein m=0) are soluble in solvents and may be used in the spin-dyeing of cellulose acetate and polyacrylonitrile. The quaternary salts (m=1) are soluble in water and may be used to dye mordanted cotton, leather, cellulose ethers and esters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters and particularly polyacrylonitrile in yellow shades.
