Abstract

A surveillance system for power line peer-to-peer signal transmission includes a camera 1 capable of transmitting a video signal over a power line 4, a power line network bridge 11 for extracting video signals from the power line, a surveillance device 2 for monitoring the camera output and optionally also controlling the camera, and a server 3. The server is used in setting up a peer-to-peer (p2p) internet connection between the network bridge and the surveillance device, preferably using hole punching technology. The power line network bridge and surveillance device are each connected to the internet via routers 12. 21. The use of p2p technology in this way allows an ordinary person to easily monitor and control images and electric equipment at home through internet, without carrying out network wiring or knowing how to set up an IP.
