Description
The present invention relates to a method and a device for displaying speed information on an aircraft, in particular a transport aircraft. It applies to the field of aeronautics, civil or military, and more particularly although not exclusively, during the phases when the aircraft is on the ground or near the ground (take-off, final approach, landing, take-off interrupted, taxiing) . It is known that the speed information of an aircraft is displayed in the cockpit, for example at a display screen of primary flight parameters, type "PFD" ("Primary Flight Display" in English) : head down on a usual screen and / or head up on a head-up display device type HUD ("Head-Up Display"). This speed information generally represents an air speed (or indicated speed) of the IAS type ("lndicated Air Speed"). A ground speed information, type GS ("Ground Speed" in English), is sometimes also displayed in the cockpit of some aircraft. The display of air speed information is generally performed on a speed scale, graduated in knots, on which can be displayed useful speed information for the pilot, for example: a usual graduation at 100 knots, announced during the take-off procedure by the co-pilot; a speed V1 (dependent on the conditions of the day) during take-off, for the decision to continue or not take-off; - a speed VR (dependent on the conditions of the day) during takeoff, to initiate the rotation; and a speed V2 (also dependent on the conditions of the day) during take-off, to stabilize the aircraft on this speed during the initial climb. This speed information is used by the crew to make decisions and / or fly the aircraft. Thus, especially during the take-off run, the crew must constantly monitor their current speed (usually displayed head down on the PFD screen), and anticipate the following characteristic speeds to make the right decisions, while looking at the outside the cockpit to control the aircraft, especially to maintain the latter on the axis of the runway. The crew must therefore visually make a round trip between information posted head down (decoupled from the outside) and a monitoring of the external environment for pilotage tasks. In addition, the awareness of the environment and the current situation ("situation awareness" in English) requires a complex mental process, during which the crew must analyze a de-correlated information of the external environment (information from speed displayed on a screen in the cockpit) as part of an active surveillance of the environment of the aircraft in order to make decisions (for example, cancel or continue a take-off around the speed V1). This disadvantage also occurs, to a lesser extent, when the speed scale and the characteristic speeds are displayed head-up, for example on a HUD-type display, because the crew must always go back and forth between a piece of information. single non-compliant, generally disposed on the left side of the HUD display, and the external environment of the aircraft. The present invention aims to overcome this disadvantage.
It relates to a method of assisting the piloting of an aircraft in the form of a speed information display, the purpose of which is to facilitate the awareness of the actual situation (in particular speed) for the pilot (s) (s). For this purpose, according to the invention, said method of assisting the piloting of an aircraft is remarkable in that it comprises: a step of acquiring kinetic parameters of the aircraft; a calculation step for calculating, using said kinetic parameters, for at least one given speed, called the useful speed, the distance between the current position of the aircraft and a position along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed; and a display step for displaying, on at least one cockpit screen, at least one characteristic sign which illustrates said useful speed, which is integrated in the environment seen by means of said screen and which is positioned in in order to locate a location of the environment along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed by maintaining said kinetic parameters.
Thus, thanks to the invention, the pilot has on at least one cockpit screen at least one characteristic sign which is positioned so as to locate a location of the space along the flight path followed. by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed by maintaining said kinetic parameters. This information makes it easier for the pilot (s) to become aware of the actual situation of the aircraft in speed, at least for said useful speed, and thus makes it possible to remedy the aforementioned drawback. In addition, this characteristic sign may allow the pilot to clearly identify the moment when the corresponding useful speed is reached, for example by viewing the passage of a virtual door by performing the display of the characteristic sign appropriately. In a first preferred embodiment, said acquisition step realizes the acquisition of real kinetic parameters of the aircraft in real time, said calculation step realizes the distance calculation in real time, and said display step realizes the real time display. In addition, as a variant or in addition to said first embodiment, in a second embodiment, said acquisition step is able to achieve the acquisition of predicted kinetic parameters of the aircraft, which are then used in said step of calculation.
Advantageously, the distance D (between the current position of the aircraft and the position at which the latter will reach the useful speed) is calculated, at the calculation step, using the following expressions: - if J: T = (VA * A-2 * J * (V-Vt) -A) 1J D = V * T + Al2 * T * T + J I6 * T * T * T - If J = 0 and A # 0: T In which: Vt is said useful speed; V is the speed (current or predicted) of the aircraft; A is the ground acceleration (current or predicted) of the aircraft; J is the time derivative (current or predicted) of the ground acceleration of the aircraft; and - T is the time required to reach the useful speed from said kinetic parameters V, A and J (current or predicted) of the aircraft.
Moreover, said method may have at least some of the following characteristics, taken individually or in combination: the calculation step is implemented for a plurality of useful speeds and at the display step a speed scale is displayed on the screen from a plurality of characteristic signs respectively corresponding to at least some of said useful speeds; said method takes into account at least one useful speed which is a decision speed. Preferably, the characteristic sign relating to this decision speed is displayed on said speed scale; the speed is an air speed (preferably) or a ground speed; and - at least one useful speed is displayed on the screen, according to the current phase of the aircraft. The present invention can be applied to different display units (and screens). In particular, advantageously, in the display step, said one or more characteristic signs are displayed: in a conformal view on a screen forming part of a head-up display device so that said characteristic sign is superimposed on the location of the environment to be located, which is visible through said screen; and / or - on a screen forming part of a head-down display device which displays at least one view of a part of the environment at the front of the aircraft and is positioned in conformity view at the location appropriate part of the environment that is reproduced on this screen; and / or - on a screen forming part of a head-down display device which displays a plan view of an airport domain and is positioned at the appropriate location of the plan view which is reproduced on this screen. The present invention also relates to a device for displaying speed information on an aircraft, which is intended to assist the crew in piloting the aircraft. This device is particularly suitable for all phases where the aircraft is on the ground or near the ground (take-off, final approach, landing, take-off interrupted, taxiing). According to the invention, said display device is remarkable in that it comprises: a unit for acquiring kinetic parameters of the aircraft; a calculation unit configured to calculate, using said kinetic parameters, for at least one given speed, called the useful speed, the distance between the current position of the aircraft and a position along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed; and at least one display unit configured to display, on at least one screen of the cockpit, at least one characteristic sign which illustrates said useful speed, which is integrated in the environment seen by means of said screen and which is positioned so as to locate a location of the space along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed by maintaining said kinetic parameters. The present invention further relates to an aircraft, in particular a transport aircraft, which is provided with such a display device (or piloting aid). The figures of the appended drawing will make it clear how the invention can be realized. In these figures, identical references designate similar elements. Figure 1 is a block diagram of a device that illustrates an embodiment of the invention.
The device 1 shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1 and making it possible to illustrate the invention, is intended to assist the piloting of an aircraft (not shown), in particular of a transport aircraft, by presenting the crew with information of speed. According to the invention, said device 1 which is embarked on the aircraft notably comprises, as represented in FIG. 1: an acquisition unit 2 comprising an acquisition element 3 able to acquire, in real time, kinetic parameters of the aircraft, specified below; a calculation unit 4 which is connected via a link 5 to the acquisition unit 2 and which is configured to calculate, using the kinetic parameters received from the latter, for at least one speed useful (or target speed) Vt of the aircraft, the distance D between the current position of the aircraft (that is to say the position at the current instant) and a position along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed Vt; and at least one display unit 6A, 6B which is connected via a link 7A, 7B to the acquisition unit 2 and which is configured to display, on at least one screen 8A, 8B of the cockpit, at least one characteristic sign 51, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 which illustrates said useful speed Vt. According to the invention, this characteristic sign 51, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 is integrated in the environment seen by means of said screen 8A, 8B, and is positioned so as to make it possible to locate the location of the screen. space along the flight path followed by the aircraft, to which the latter will reach said useful speed by maintaining said kinetic parameters. Preferably, the preceding operations are implemented for a plurality of useful speeds Vt (or target speeds).
The display device 1 therefore has the following object: to calculate, for each of the speeds Vt to be displayed (head up or head down), the distance D between the current position of the aircraft and the position of the space along the expected trajectory of the aircraft at which the latter will reach the speed Vt in question; and - to display (head-up or head-down) the position of the point where this speed Vt will be reached in the reference of the display. The present invention can be applied to different display units 6A, 6B and screens 8A, 8B. In particular, the characteristic sign (s) Si, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 may be displayed: A / in a conformal view on a screen 8A forming part of a device head-up display so that, as shown in Figure 2 for illustration, the characteristic sign is superimposed on the location of the space to be located, which is visible through said screen 8A. This projection of the speed information is preferably carried out using a HUD type device ("Head Up Display") or another head-up display device for superimposing on a compliant view the speed information by report to the outside. The head-up device 6A may also include conventional systems, such as: a synthetic vision system of the SVS ("Synthetic Vision System") type, which performs a synthetic reconstitution of certain elements of the environment, for example the outline of the track; and an improved vision system of the EVS ("Enhanced Vision System") type, using optical or radar sensors to improve the pilot's external view; B / in compliant view, on a head-down display, for example: - in SVS vision. By representing the track in a synthetic manner, it is possible to display speed ticks and significant speeds directly in the reconstructed synthetic environment; or - in EVS vision. One superimposed on an image taken by a sensor (optical, infrared, millimeter or microwaves in particular), graduation elements and speeds important for the pilot; C / on a screen forming part of a head-down display device which displays a plan view of an airport area, in particular a navigation display device displaying for example a representation of the runway on the airport seen from above (OANS type: "On-board Airport Navigation System" in English), in order to show the locations of the speed ticks, as well as the important speeds for the pilot along the representation of the track. These different display units being complementary, the display device 1 can use several simultaneously, so as to allow the pilot to better understand the situation of the aircraft. In a particular embodiment, the calculation is performed for a plurality of useful speeds and a speed scale 13 is displayed on the screen 6A from a plurality of characteristic signs Si to S4 respectively corresponding to said useful speeds, as specified Hereinafter with reference to FIG. 2. The display device 1 can also take into account at least one useful speed which is a decision speed. In this case, preferably, the characteristic sign S5, S6 relating to said decision speed is displayed on said speed scale 13, as also shown in FIG. 2. FIG. 2 shows an example of a display on a screen 8A of FIG. a display unit 6A corresponding to a head-up device. In the usual way, this screen 8A is transparent and makes it possible to see the external environment, in this case at the front of the aircraft.
For the sake of clarity of the drawing and of ease of reading, this environment has been depicted in a simplified manner in FIG. 2. It has simply represented: a horizon line 10, and a track 11 (landing or take off) with a marking 12 of the center line.
On this screen 8A, the display unit 6A also displays the characteristic signs Si at S6. The characteristic signs Si at S4 represent different values of useful speeds, namely respectively 90, 100, 110 and 120 knots. These characteristic signs 51 to S4 are each presented on a line 13A and on a line 13B. These lines 13A and 13B are displayed on either side of the track 11 seen through the screen 8A and form a speed scale 13. As for the characteristic signs S5 and S6, they relate to decision speeds and are presented on this speed scale 13.
In the example shown, the characteristic sign S5 comprises on either side of the track 11 a label 14 indicating the type of speed (in this case V1) and each time a connecting bar 15 between the label 14 and the scale 13, and an indicating bar 16 which connects the corresponding connection points of the two branches 13A and 13B while crossing the track 11. Similarly, the characteristic sign S6 comprises on both sides of the track 11 a label 17 indicating the type of speed (in this case VR) and each time a connecting bar 18 between this label 17 and the scale 13, and an indication bar 19 which connects the connection points corresponding of the two branches 13A and 13B while crossing the track 11.
Thus, if the aircraft maintains its current kinetic conditions (speed, acceleration, jerk), it will arrive at the speed V1, VR at the corresponding indication bar 16, 19. These indication bars 16 and 19 may represent virtual doors, allowing the pilot to clearly identify the moment when the corresponding useful speed is reached, namely during the passage of the virtual door in question. The display of FIG. 2 could also be a display made with a low head using an SVS system or an EVS system, with a non-transparent screen and the representation of the environment in a synthetic manner OR at the same time. using an image of a sensor (optical, infrared, millimeter or microwaves in particular).
Furthermore, in a particular embodiment, at least some of the useful speeds are displayed, depending on the current phase of the aircraft, mainly a phase where the aircraft is on the ground or near the ground (take-off, final approach, landing, take-off interrupted, taxiing). By way of illustration, the display device 1 can display the following important speeds, which are useful to the crew: at take-off, the speed at 100 knots and the characteristic speeds: V1, VR, V2; - at landing, the speed at which the thrust reversers are to be reduced to the idle engine thrust (if previously they were at a higher thrust than idle), and the speed at which the thrust reversers are to be retracted (if previously deployed); and - when driving, the ground speed scale around 10 knots, to allow a turn to take place under good conditions. This velocity information is displayed directly in the environment in conformity vision, as represented by way of example in FIG. 2: by graduating the sides of the track with velocity graduations (regular or not), for example all 10 knots; and - by displaying the important speeds useful to the crew at certain points of the environment outside the aircraft, for example on virtual panels placed at certain distances in front of the aircraft, or directly on the runway. The display of a speed scale 13 makes it possible to provide a direct perception of the acceleration and deceleration variations, since the speed scale 13 then deforms (contraction or dilation according to whether the aircraft is accelerating or decelerating). This deformation is particularly useful to help the crew to perceive the abnormal variations of accelerations, for example: - in the event of engine failure (abrupt loss of engine power, therefore of acceleration), which leads to an expansion of the scale ; - in case of variation of the wind (if the scale is graduated in air speed, it will translate accordingly); and - on landing, in the event of a deterioration of the braking level (for example, loss of one or more brakes or of a thrust reverser), which leads to an expansion of the ladder. Moreover, the calculation unit 4 calculates, for a given useful speed Vt (for example V1, V2, ...), the distance D using the following expressions: - if J # 0: T = (VA * A-2 * J * (V-Vt) -A) 1J D = V * T + Al2 * T * T + JI 6 * T * T * T -si J = 0 and A # 0: T - (Vt -V) 1 AD = V * T + Al2 * T * T in which: - Vt is said useful air speed; V is the measured current air speed of the aircraft, namely the relative speed of the aircraft in the air mass in which it evolves; A is the current ground acceleration measured of the aircraft, namely the kinematic acceleration resulting from the forces applied to the aircraft; J is the measured current ground jerk, that is to say the time derivative of the current ground acceleration of the aircraft; and T is the time required to reach the useful speed Vt from said current kinetic parameters (speed, acceleration, jerk) of the aircraft. In addition, if A = 0, the distance D is not calculated, and no characteristic sign relating to the speed Vt considered is displayed on the screen 8A, 8B. The use of Vt and V speeds as air speeds allows a display of air speeds. The speed information is used to set a useful speed Vt along the speed scale. Also, to display a speed Vt in the air reference, it is advisable to measure and use an air speed (or indicated speed) of IAS type so that the speeds are coherent between them. On the other hand, if one wants to represent a ground speed, then it is necessary that Vt and V are ground speeds. In this case, the distance D is calculated in the same way as above, simply by using ground speeds V and Vt instead of air speeds V and Vt. The acceleration information serves to expand or contract the speed scale 13. Preferably, the acceleration is used in the ground coordinate system in order to be less dependent on variations in air speed due to wind. Indeed, the aerodynamic effect of the wind variation (a burst for example) has little influence on the acceleration of the aircraft relative to the ground (the influence is second-order compared to the thrust of the engines). A gust of wind will therefore have little influence on the expansion or contraction of the scale (even if the position of the speed Vt will move a little along the scale). Also, the preferred solution, with an air speed coupled with a ground acceleration, makes it possible to ensure a good coherence with the decision-making based on the air characteristic speeds, while smoothing the effects of the variations of wind on the projection of the speed scale. Moreover, by considering an orthonormal reference (0, X, Y), in which (XAC, YAC) is the position of the aircraft and y is the angle of the trajectory that the aircraft is supposed to follow, the position (XVt, YVt) of the point where the velocity Vt is displayed in the frame (0, X, Y) is given by: XVt = XAC + D * cos (y) - E * sin (Nf) YVt = YAC + D * sin (y) + E * coe For example, during the take-off and landing phases, we can use for y the value corresponding to the track: = 2 arctan ((Y2 - Y1) 4 (X2 - X1) 2 ± (Y2 - Y1) 2 ± (X2 - X1)) in which: - (X1, Y1) is the threshold of the runway from which the aircraft departs; - (X2, Y2) is the opposite end of the track; and - E is the lateral offset of the point where the speed Vt will be displayed with respect to the axis defined by the direction y and the current position of the aircraft. The display of the position (XVt, YVt) on a screen 8A, 8B of a display unit 6A, 6B depends on the repository of this screen 8A, 8B and is carried out in the usual manner. More precisely: - for an OANS type display, it corresponds to the position of a point in a 2D coordinate system; and - for a proper display in a head-up display device, projecting a position of the 3D space (ie, a point (XVt, YVt, 0)), where 0 means that the point is a point on the track (zero altitude with respect to track) on a 2D screen (in this case, a screen HUD or an equivalent device), knowing the relative distance between the point and the cockpit of the aircraft, the height of the screen HUD relative to the runway, and the orientation of the aircraft in space.
In the preferred embodiment described above, the acquisition unit 2 comprises an acquisition element 3 to perform the real-time acquisition of current kinetic parameters of the aircraft. In addition, in this case, the computing unit 4 is configured to perform the real-time distance calculation using these common kinetic parameters, and the display unit 6A, 6B is configured to realize the real time display. In addition, in another embodiment, the acquisition unit 2 comprises an acquisition element 9 for acquiring predicted kinetic parameters of the aircraft, which are then used by the calculation unit 4. in the same manner as described in the aforementioned preferred embodiment.
This particular embodiment makes it possible, for example, before the take-off thrusting, to display the positions that are predicted by the characteristic speed performance calculations (100, V1, VR for example), in order to allow the crew to anticipate (anticipate) these positions along runway 11.
The display device 1 as mentioned above has the following advantages, and this on all the phases where the aircraft is on the ground or near the ground: - a gain in efficiency of the situational awareness for the pilot by making the information compliant speed, that is to say by integrating this information in the environment seen by the pilot; and - a gain in reaction time with respect to the decision-making, which makes it possible in particular to avoid late decisions (for example with respect to the decision to V1 to continue or not takeoff).
