Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to automatic control devices for measuring conductivity used in cement works and relates in particular to a device and a method for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample.
In a cement plant, one of the significant furnace control parameters is what is known as the percentage of free lime in the clinker. This value is an indicator of the degree of cooking and must be kept constant between 1 and 1.5% on a cooking line. The value of free lime content is also a key indicator of the quality of any type of cement. This measurement can be determined according to several methods, including a so-called reference. Among these different methods known in cementing medium, the one that is the most interesting is the conductivity measurement of a solution of clinker ground in mono-ethylene glycol commonly called glycol. The above method described in French Patent 2,585,133 and implemented automatically consists of preparing a mixture of 50 grams of anhydrous mono-ethylene glycol and 1 gram of milled clinker to obtain a solution after stirring with a stirrer. mechanical, to bring the solution to a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius in a beaker by means of a heating resistor monitored by a temperature measurement. After some time, about 8 minutes, the conductivity of the solution is measured by means of a conductimetric electrode probe. The conductivity value obtained is proportional to the concentration of Ca 2+ ions in the solution, and also proportional to the weight of milled clinker and inversely proportional to the weight of glycol according to a polynomial calibration formula whose constants are defined at the time of calibration with fresh standard clinkers with different values, between 0.5% and 5% free lime. Although the above method is a relatively reliable method, it can give rise to erroneous results due to failures due to lack of agitation of the solution, temperature control problem, measurement problem related to the electrode probe such as an electronic processing problem, a wiring problem or a fouling problem of the electrode probe. Therefore, the object of the invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks by providing a device and a method for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample in which a second probe different from the electrode probe such as that an induction probe, allows a redundancy bringing a great reliability to the result obtained. The main object of the invention is therefore a device for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample comprising a first measuring means consisting of a container in which the clinker sample is placed and a predetermined quantity of mono-ethylene glycol, the whole being agitated to obtain a mixture in which the free lime present in the sample has been solubilized in the mono-ethylene glycol, and a first conductimetric electrode probe adapted to perform the measurement of the conductivity of the mixture which is a function of the free lime content of the clinker sample. The device comprises a second measuring means comprising a second conductimetric probe different from the first probe adapted to measure the conductivity of the mixture which is a function of the free lime content of the clinker sample whose conductivity has already been measured by the probe conductivity sensor, and a processing unit successively receiving the value of the conductivity given by the first electrode conductimetric probe and the value of the conductivity given by the second conductimetric induction probe to provide a validation signal when the difference between the values. is less than a predetermined value.
Another object of the invention is a method of measuring free lime content of a clinker sample comprising the steps of: - placing in a container the clinker sample and a predetermined amount of mono-ethylene glycol - Agitate all for a time sufficient to obtain a mixture in which the free lime present in the sample has been dissolved in the mono-ethylene glycol, - measure the electrical conductivity of the mixture by means of a electrodes conductimetric probe, this conductivity being a function of the free lime content of the clinker sample; perform a second measurement of the electrical conductivity of the mixture by means of a conductimetric probe different from the conductimetric electrode probe and which is also a function of the free lime content of the clinker sample, transmit successively the value of the conductivity given by the conductimetric electrode probe and the value of the conductivity given by the conductimetric induction probe to a processing unit; - recovering at the output of the processing unit a validation signal when the difference between the values is less than a predetermined value or a non-validation signal in the opposite case. The objects, objects and features of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description made with reference to the single figure which represents a block diagram of the device for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample. according to the invention, and the device for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample according to the invention is described with reference to the single figure. A predetermined amount of crushed clinker whose lime content, for example 1 g, is to be measured is placed in a suitable container 10. A predetermined quantity of mono-ethylene glycol or glycol, for example 50 g, is also placed in a container. 12. The clinker and the glycol are then placed in a beaker 14 where they are stirred at a temperature of 80 ° C. to obtain a mixture in which the clinker has been dissolved in the glycol. In general, a duration of 8 minutes of stirring is sufficient to obtain the mixture and the same result. The mixture is then transferred to a container in which there is a conductimetric electrode probe 16.
This one measures the electrical conductivity of the mixture which is proportional to the free lime content of the clinker. When the conductivity measurement has been carried out by the probe 16, the mixture is transferred into a container in which there is a conductimetric induction probe 18. The latter also conducts the conductivity measurement of the mixture at a temperature of 80 ° C. Finally, the two conductivity measurement values provided by the two probes are transmitted to a processing unit such as a programmable controller 20. The latter performs the comparison of the two values. When the two values are equal, which is the case in general, the programmable controller 20 outputs a validation signal. When the two values are not equal but differ from a value less than a predetermined value, a validation signal is still transmitted but with a reserve indication. If the difference between the two conductivity values is greater than this predetermined value, a non-validation signal is transmitted and the device performs the measurement again.
The conductimetric induction probe 18 is preferably a toroidal type probe comprising a magnetic field emitting coil and a magnetic field receiving coil, the two coils being of toroidal shape and surrounding a pipe-shaped container in which the mixture is located. The magnetic field provided by the transmitting coil is transmitted to the mixture of clinker and glycol in the container. This magnetic field induces a current in the liquid mixture. The ions present in the liquid are then traversed by a current proportional to the ionic concentration, which current is measured at a receiver coil. The method for measuring the free lime content of a clinker sample thus consists in carrying out a second measurement of the conductivity of the mixture, a first measurement of the conductivity of which has just been carried out using the electrode probe. then compare the results obtained using a PLC so that the measurement can be validated. It is therefore a redundant measure of the conductivity of the mixture that is carried out, but the redundancy is not simply the repetition of the measurement with an identical device. The second measurement is carried out with a probe different from the first probe, and in particular with an induction probe. This is one of the essential features of the invention.
Note that the use of a second probe different from the first probe, such as an induction probe design much more mechanically robust, avoids failures of the first electrode probe, namely poor agitation, a defect of the probe itself, a wiring fault of the probe or the electronics, a fault of the temperature probe or a fouling of the electrode probe. In addition, the solution is already dissolved, it only takes a few seconds to make a reliable measurement, accurate and repeatable with the induction probe.
Finally, note that the main advantage of the invention lies in its accuracy, accuracy, reproducibility, the speed of the second conductivity measurement since the mixture that has already been analyzed.
