Abstract
Description
PROCEDE ET DISPOSITIF POUR DIMINUER LA CONSOMMATION D'APPAREILS ELECTRIQUES METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REDUCING THE CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICAL DEVICES
The present invention relates to a method and a device for reducing the consumption of electrical appliances. It applies, in particular, to electrical appliances with a mode of operation in standby. The standby mode of operation has two purposes. On the one hand, it aims to keep the device in a position to receive messages for returning the device to normal operation, for example from a remote control. On the other hand, it aims to allow a quick restart of the device at the exit of the standby mode by allowing the maintenance of an operating configuration in memory of a processor. The known electrical appliances that have a standby mode and have a power consumption in normal operation and a residual power consumption when in standby mode. The multiplication of appliances with a standby mode has, however, resulted in increased power consumption per household or per professional establishment. To reduce this overall residual consumption, which has important environmental consequences, new regulations pose contradictory requirements on the use of products. It is not often technically possible, on complex systems, to implement low consumption modes preserving the speed of return to the functional state expected by the users. Moreover, when a subset is added to an existing system, the system is often close to the limit and the room for maneuver is very limited. In addition, these solutions are particularly expensive. The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages. For this purpose, according to a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a device 30 for reducing consumption of an apparatus, which comprises: an external power supply adapted to power the apparatus in normal operating mode; a battery adapted to to be recharged by said external power supply during normal operation and - a power supply means of the device in standby mode adapted to supply the apparatus with both electrical power from the external power supply and from the electrical energy from said battery.
With these provisions, the external power consumption in standby mode is equal to the difference between the consumption of the device in standby mode and the consumption of electrical energy from the battery. The device can thus comply with the new regulations while undergoing a minor modification of its power supply system and thus guarantee the same quality of operation in standby mode before changing the power supply. According to particular characteristics, the external power supply comprises a direct-current DC converter whose efficiency is increasing with the energy consumption. Thanks to these provisions, the present invention allows a reduction in the overall energy consumed by the device. Indeed, when the device is in normal operation, the charge of the battery is made with a high efficiency while, when the device is in standby mode, the discharge of the battery makes it possible to avoid a consumption of energy produced with low efficiency. According to particular features, the power supply means of the apparatus is adapted to compare, in stand-by mode, an estimated available energy with a level of energy necessary to maintain the standby mode and to transmit a control signal stopping the the apparatus when the estimated available energy is less than or equal to the energy required. Thus, when the discharge of the battery no longer allows it to properly power the device to standby mode, the power means causes the device to stop. In particular, a processor incorporated in the device can then prepare the shutdown of the device by saving configuration data of the device and stopping software applications of the device in a state that poses no risk d error during the future restart of the device.
According to particular features, the device which is the subject of the present invention, as succinctly set forth above, comprises a processor adapted, on receipt of the control signal, to save configuration data of the apparatus and to stop software applications of the device in a state that presents no risk of error during a future restart of the device.
According to particular features, the power supply means comprises a comparator adapted to compare the voltage across the battery with a voltage limit value. According to particular features, the supply means comprises means for transmitting to the processor a signal from the comparator. According to particular features, the device that is the subject of the present invention, as briefly described above, comprises a means of limiting the electrical energy consumption of the charge of the battery when the device is in standby mode.
According to particular characteristics, the external power supply continuously supplies part of the circuits of the apparatus, the battery supplying other circuits of the apparatus when the apparatus is in standby mode. According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to an electrical apparatus, which comprises a device object of the present invention, as briefly described above. According to a third aspect, the present invention aims at a method of reducing consumption of an apparatus, which comprises: a step of normal operation of the apparatus, during which an external power supply supplies the apparatus in operating mode normal and recharges a battery and - a step of operation of the device in standby mode, during which the device is powered by both the battery and the external power supply. According to particular characteristics, during the step of operating the device in standby mode, the energy available in standby mode is compared with a level of energy necessary to maintain the standby mode and a control signal is transmitted. stopping the device when the available energy is less than or equal to the energy required. According to particular features, the method comprises, upon reception of the control signal, a backup of configuration and stopping software application data in a state that presents no risk of error during a future restart. The other advantages, aims and special features of this apparatus and method object of the present invention being similar to those of the device object of the present invention, as succinctly described above, they are not recalled here. Other advantages, aims and particular features of the present invention will emerge from the description which follows, for an explanatory and non-limiting purpose, with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 represents, schematically, a mode of DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The embodiment of the device according to the present invention, FIG. 2 represents, in the form of a logic diagram, steps implemented in a particular embodiment of the method that is the subject of the present invention and FIG. power supply usable for the implementation of the present invention. FIG. 1 shows an apparatus 105 comprising components 110 and 115, a processor 120, a signal receiver 125 and a power supply device 130. The components 110 are electrically powered only during the periods of normal operation of the device. apparatus. The components 115, the processor 120 and the signal receiver 125 are electrically powered both during the normal operating periods of the apparatus and during the standby periods. The signal receiver 125 is adapted to receive control signals from the standby mode output to enter the normal operating mode of the apparatus. For example, the signal receiver is an infrared or radio remote control signal receiver, a signal receiver carried by the external power supplying the device, a signal receiver emitted by a keyboard or a touch screen. The power supply device 130 comprises: an external power supply 135 adapted to power all the components of the apparatus 105, when the latter is in normal operating mode, that is to say provides a service, a battery 140 adapted to be recharged by the external power supply 135 during normal operation and a supply means 145 of the apparatus 105 when the latter is in standby mode, that is to say n ' is able to exit the standby mode to switch to normal operating mode, receiving signals from the commander, the power supply means 135 being adapted to provide, at a time, to the apparatus of electrical energy from the external power supply and electrical power from said battery. One embodiment of the feed means 145 is shown in Figure 3, described below. In another embodiment, the power supply means 145 consists of the battery 140 and a current limiter positioned at the charge input of the battery and put into operation during the standby of the device 105. Thus, from the standby, the device is powered by the battery and the battery is partially recharged by the current limiter. The power consumption complies with the legal requirements. Preferably, the current delivered by the current limiter is controlled either by a multi-position mechanical switch or by a switch controlled by a programmable component. The apparatus 105 can thus easily be adapted to each applicable regulatory constraint. The device 105 is thus powered by both the battery and the external power supply when it is in standby mode. The external power supply preferably comprises an AC direct current converter whose efficiency is increasing with the energy consumption. As is easily understood, the external power consumption, that is to say measured at the input of the external power supply 135 is, in standby mode, equal to the difference between the consumption of the device in standby mode , that is to say that of its components 115, 120 and 125, and the consumption of electrical energy from the battery, divided by the performance of the external power supply 135. The apparatus can thus respect the new regulations while undergoing a minor modification of its power supply system and thus guarantee the same quality of operation in standby mode before changing the power supply. Due to the increase in the efficiency of the external power supply 135 with the power consumption, the implementation of the present invention makes it possible to reduce the overall energy consumed by the apparatus. Indeed, when the device is in normal operation, the charge of the battery is done with energy produced with a high efficiency of the converter whereas, when the device is in standby mode, the discharge of the battery makes it possible to to avoid a consumption of energy produced with a low efficiency of the converter. Thus, without the device, the energy consumption would be: - during the normal operating periods: Nnorma, / r1 and - during the idle periods: NVe1,, e / r2 While with the device, for example equipped with 'a battery providing half of the electrical energy in standby mode and consuming this energy when recharging: - during periods of normal operation: (Nnorma, + NVeiiie / 2) / r1 and - during idle periods: ( NVeiiie / 2) / r2 The energy balance, the difference of the consumption amounts for the two states of the device) gives a reduction of consumption of NVeiiie / 2 / (r1-r2). The power supply means 145 comprises a comparator 150 adapted to compare, in standby mode, an estimated available energy with a level of energy necessary to maintain the standby mode and a transmission means 155 of a stop control signal. when the available energy is less than or equal to the energy required. For example, the comparator 150 compares the voltage across the battery 140 is a voltage limit value. Indeed, we know that a battery has a voltage curve, between its terminals, which represents its available energy. For example, the transmission means 155 transmits a signal to the processor 120. For example, this signal is a signal output from the comparator 150 which is worth a first binary value when the estimated available energy is sufficient to maintain the standby mode and a signal that is worth a second binary value when the estimated available energy is not sufficient. Thus, when the discharge of the battery 140 no longer allows it to properly power the device to standby mode, the power means causes the device to stop. In particular, the processor 120 can then prepare the shutdown of the device 105 by saving configuration data and stopping software applications in a state that presents no risk of error during the future restart.
Si oui, on retourne à l'étape 215. FIG. 2 shows a step 205 of normal operation of the apparatus, during which an external power supply supplies the apparatus in normal operating mode and recharges a battery. During a step 210, it goes into sleep mode, according to known techniques, for example on receipt of a control signal from a remote control or after determining the absence of a user. During a step 215, during operation of the device in standby mode, the device is powered by both the battery and the external power supply. During a step 220, during the step of operating the device in standby mode, it is estimated whether the energy available in standby mode is greater than a level of energy required to maintain the standby mode. If yes, we return to step 215. Otherwise, a stop command signal is sent from the device to a processor of the device, during a step 225. On receipt of the signal of command, by the processor, during a step 230, one saves configuration data and stops software applications in a state that does not present any risk of error during a future restart. Then the processor returns to step 215 or shuts down the device. FIG. 3 shows an apparatus 105, schematically divided into three parts, 150, 155 and 160. The portion 150 comprises the circuits supplied during the normal operation of the apparatus 105 but not during standby. Part 155 includes circuits powered during standby whose total consumption complies with applicable regulations. The part 160 includes the other circuits powered during the watch. A power supply 165 is connected to the mains. The portion 155 of the apparatus 105 is continuously powered by the power supply 165. A set of switches 170 includes: a switch positioned between the power supply 165 and the portion 150 of the apparatus 105, which is closed during normal operation of the apparatus and opened during the standby time intervals, a switch positioned between the power supply 165 and the portion 155 of the apparatus 105, which is closed during the normal operation of the apparatus and open during the time periods of standby, - a switch positioned between the power supply 165 and the battery 140, which is closed during normal operation of the apparatus and open at intervals of time standby and - a switch positioned between the battery 140 and the portion 160 of the apparatus 105, which is open during normal operation of the apparatus and open during the standby time intervals. Figure 3 shows the positioning of these switches during a standby time interval. The battery 140 is thus recharged by the power supply 165 outside the standby time intervals and supplies a portion 160 of the circuits necessary for the standby operation during the standby time intervals. The device 105 is thus powered by both the battery and the external power supply when it is in standby mode.
