Abstract

The generator (1) has a container (2) filled with water, a gas pipe (9) housed in the container, and an ignition device (12) for igniting gas provoking from the gas pipe. An evacuation unit evacuates an extinction product e.g. powder and foamite, utilized for extinguishing flame supplied by the gas through the gas pipe, and the unit is constituted by a water pipe (16) place near the ignition device. The water pipe is vertically placed between the ignition device and a water line (6) of the container. The water pipe includes a water outlet orifice (18) located above the water line.

Description

FLAME GENERATOR

The invention relates to a flame generator, also referred to as a fire simulator.

This type of device is used for the training and training of people, for example firefighters or first responders, designated to respond to a fire. In particular, these devices allow the training and training of people in the handling of different types of fire extinguishers. These flame generators generally comprise a metal tank whose bottom is provided with a gas ramp. After filling the tank with water, the gas is ignited by means known per se, for example by means of an electric arc generated by electrodes arranged on one of the edges of the tank. The gas diffuses into the water and, when ignited, produces a fire whose appearance and characteristics are comparable to those of a material on fire. In other words, the diffusion in water of the gas makes it possible to suppress the burner effect of a lit gas ramp. Users practice extinguishing this fire with water spray, carbon foam or powder fire extinguishers. Once the fire is extinguished by a first user it is necessary to reignite the gas to start another training session with a second user. Repeated use of a dry powder or carbon dioxide extinguisher such as those recommended for extinguishing electric or hydrocarbon fires makes subsequent firing difficult. Indeed, after a few cycles of use of the fire simulator, the extinguishing product, namely the powder or the foam, forms a film on the surface of the water which blocks the diffusion of the gas. This one can not escape, or, at least, in a very irregular way. In addition, it frequently happens that powder or foam covers the electrodes of the firing device. The powder or foam causes a grounding of the electrodes, so that the electric arc does not occur between the electrodes but between the base of the electrodes and the tank. In other words, after a few cycles of use of the flame generator with a powder or foam extinguisher, the firing is difficult, the products used for extinguishing fire continue to play their role. It is these drawbacks that the invention intends to remedy more particularly by proposing a flame generator allowing repeated, reliable and durable use with all types of extinguishers, in particular with powder or foam extinguishers. For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a flame generator comprising a tank, which is adapted to be filled with water and in which is housed a gas ramp, and a device for firing the gas coming from the ramp. gas, characterized in that it also comprises a means for discharging an extinguishing product used to extinguish the gas-fired gas beam. With such a means, the powder or the foam is evacuated, for example by making it fall into the bottom of the tank, which allows, on the one hand, to clean the firing device and, on the other hand, to facilitate the diffusion of the gas out of the tank for a new firing. According to advantageous but non-obligatory aspects of the invention, such a generator may incorporate one or more of the following features: the means of evacuation of the extinguishing product comprises a water ramp disposed in the vicinity of the firing device. - The water ramp is located between, vertically, the firing device and the water level in the tank. - The water ramp is equipped with at least one water outlet port oriented to the water level in the tank, to agitate the water contained in the tank. - The water ramp is equipped with at least one water outlet port located above the water level in the tank. - The water ramp is provided with at least one water outlet port facing the firing device, in order to clean the latter. the water ramp is provided with two water outlet orifices respectively oriented towards two electrodes of the firing device. - The water ramp is adapted to be powered by an external water supply. - The water ramp is adapted to be fed by the tank filling water. the means of evacuation of the extinction product comprises at least one air nozzle.

The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will appear more clearly on reading the following description of a flame generator according to the invention, given solely by way of example and made by way of example. The flame generator 1 or fire simulator, the two terms being subsequently employed in an equivalent manner, represented in FIG. 1, comprises a tank 2 of parallelepipedal shape made of non-flammable material and insensitive to extinguishing products, typically made of stainless steel. which rests on four feet 3. In the example, the tank 2 is rectangular. In use, the tank 2 is adapted to be partially filled with water. On two opposite sides of the wall 4 of the tank 2, at least one, advantageously, two orifices 5 are formed and serve as overflow when the water level in the tank 2 exceeds an optimal water line 6, symbolized by mixed lines. A gas ramp 9, metal, is placed on raising tabs 7 located at the bottom 8 of the tank 2. This ramp 9 is connected by a pipe 10 shown in Figure 3, a source of flammable gas, for example a bottle of propane or butane, not shown. The tank 2 has on one side 11, in the example, a small side to the left of Figure 1, a device 12 for firing. This device 12 is in this case an electric firing device. It comprises two electrodes 13 and 14 visible in FIG. 3. These two electrodes 13 and 14 are, in the configuration of use of the generator 1, protected by a cover 15 which is visible in FIG. 1 while it is removed at the figure 3.

The device 12 for firing also comprises a battery and a remote control, not shown and located behind the electrodes, outside the tank 2. Below the electrodes 13 and 14, and above the arrival pipe 10 of gas, a ramp 16, in this case a water ramp, is provided. This water ramp 16 is a means of evacuation extinguishing products. The water ramp 16 is configured as a square cross section bar. Alternatively, it may be of another form. The position of this bar 16 on the inner face 17 of the side 11 is such that orifices 18, regularly formed on a face 19, are located substantially at the same vertical level as the orifices 5 of overflow. In other words, the orifices 18 are located slightly above the water level, materialized by the water line 6, when the tank 2 is filled with water. In other embodiments, the ramp 16 is positioned on the face 17 so that the orifices 18 are in the water, close to the surface.

Alternatively, the ramp 16 can be positioned very above the water line 6, for example above the electrodes 13 and 14 and under the cover 15. In this case, the orifices 18 are provided in one embodiment. , on the face 19 or, in another embodiment, .disposés on one face of the ramp 16 oriented toward the bottom 8 of the tank 2.

In the example, two other orifices 20 and 21 are disposed in the vicinity and substantially perpendicular to the electrodes 13 and 14 when the ramp 16 is in place on the face 17. In a preferred embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 3, the ramp 16 is disposed on the face 17, parallel to the surface of the water, materialized by the water line 6. The ramp 16 is fixed on the wall 11, between the water line 6 and the electrodes 13 and 14.

Advantageously, the orifices 20 and 21 oriented respectively towards the electrodes 13 and 14 are on a face 22 perpendicular and adjacent to the face 19 provided with the orifices 18. In a previously mentioned embodiment where the ramp 16 is above the electrodes 13 and 14, the orifices 20 and 21 are aligned with the orifices 18 on the same face of the ramp 16 when the orifices 18 are located on a faxe facing the bottom 8 of the vessel 2. The vessel 2 is also provided with a water inlet device 23, known per se, and comprising a valve 24 adapted, for example by means of a quick coupling of the garden type, to be connected to an external water source, for example a garden hose. Alternatively, the valve 24 may be connected to an outlet of the filling water, formed in the tank 2, so as to minimize the consumption of water by working in a closed circuit. In this case, a pumping device, such as an aquarium pump, must be provided to ensure the circulation of water. Advantageously, the valve 24, connected to an external water source, makes it possible to fill the tank 2 by means of the ramp 16. To facilitate the maneuvers of the valve 24 during the filling and the installation action of the ramp 16 after extinguishing the fire, the valve 24 is a remotely controlled solenoid valve, whether connected to an external water source or to an outlet of the filling water. This remote control can be coupled, automatically, with the firing device. For example, when one wants to trigger the firing, there is beforehand, during a given period, activation of the ramp 16.

When the fire is extinguished, after an exercise of use of a fire extinguisher, the surface of the water is covered with extinguishing products, for example powder or foam. Similarly, the electrodes 13 and 14 are covered, at least in the vicinity of their free ends, extinguishing product. The triggering of the water ramp 16, that is to say the sending of water through the orifices 18, generates ripples on the surface of the water. This stirring of the water is sufficient to cause, by gravity, the fall of the powder or foam at the bottom 8 of the tank 2, at least over a certain part of it, typically at the level of the part of the tank 2 located closest to the water ramp 16. Similarly, the orifices 20 and 21 oriented towards the electrodes 13 and 14 clean the latter and allow, at their ends, the creation of a spark arcing arc. traffic light. Thus, during a new use of the generator 1, at least a portion of the filling water located in the vicinity of the electrodes 13 and 14 is free of extinction product which allows the diffusion of the gas and therefore the ignition of the latter by the electric arc generated by the electrodes 13 and 14 freed from the extinction product. Once the gas ignites, the diffusion of gas is facilitated and the simulation of a fire is realized. Such a flame generator 1 is therefore particularly suitable for use with all types of fire extinguishers. The shape and the number of orifices 18, 20, 21 of the water ramp 16 can be modified according to the shape and / or the dimensions of the tank 2.

Alternatively, the water ramp 16 is replaced by a ramp provided with air nozzles. In this case, it is air that is pulsed at the electrodes 13, 14 and the surface of the water. It is then necessary to provide a connection with a compressor or a reserve of compressed air. In a variant, it is possible to envisage a ramp that is not supplied with water but with another liquid, which may be a liquid facilitating cleaning and / or a liquid facilitating the flammability of the gas.

Claims (10)

  1. REVENDICATIONS1. A flame generator (1), comprising a tank (2), which is adapted to be filled with water and in which is housed a gas ramp (9), and a device (12) for firing the gas from the gas ramp, characterized in that it also comprises means (16) for discharging an extinguishing product used to extinguish a gas-fired fire by the gas ramp (9).
  2. 2. Generator according to claim 1, characterized in that the evacuation means comprises a water ramp (16) disposed in the vicinity of the firing device (12).
  3. 3. Generator according to claim 2, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is located between, vertically, the ignition device (12) and the water level (6) of the tank (2).
  4. 4. Generator according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is equipped with at least one water outlet orifice (18) facing the water level (6) in the tank (2), to agitate the water contained in the tank.
  5. 5. Generator according to claim 4, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is equipped with at least one water outlet orifice (18) located above the water level (6) in the tank.
  6. 6. Generator according to claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is provided with at least one water outlet (20 and 21) facing the firing device (12) , in order to clean the latter.
  7. 7. Generator according to claim 6, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is provided with two water outlet orifices (20 and 21) respectively facing two electrodes (13 and 14) of the firing device. (12).
  8. 8. Generator according to any one of claims 2 to 7, characterized in that the water ramp (16) is adapted to be supplied by an external water inlet.
