Abstract

The method involves placing a wood substrate in contact with an inflatable solution containing carboxylic diacid partially soluble in water by a specific reaction, to provide inflating process for the substrate. The substrate is dried in a drying oven to remove water from the substrate. The dried and inflated substrate is placed in contact with solution containing hydrophobic polymer precursor resin non-soluble in the water. The resin is polymerized in-situ within the porosity of the wood by gamma irradiation or irradiation by electrons or thermocatalysis.
