Abstract
Description
1 DOMAINE TECHNIQUE AUQUEL SE RAPPORTE L'INVENTION La présente inventionTECHNICAL FIELD TO WHICH THE INVENTION RELATES The present invention
It relates more particularly to a method of making a serrated toothing on a cutting blade. It also relates to an installation for the implementation of such a method and a knife obtained by this method. The invention finds a particularly advantageous application in the production of any type of cutting blade such as traditional knife blades, household robot blades but also industrial cutting blades adapted to cut all kinds of materials such as steel, copper, and aluminum, paper, cardboard, wood and plastics. TECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUND Currently for making a serrated toothing on a cutting blade 15 is used a grinding wheel of form or notching whose abrasive surface has the negative tooth notch to be affixed to the cutting blade. Thus, prior to the notching operation of the cutting blade, the tooth negative to be produced is affixed by removal of material on the abrasive surface of the shaped wheel with a diamond or carbide wheel. The notching of each cutting blade can be achieved in two different ways. Either the cutting blade is held stationary and the mobile-shaped grinding wheel exerts machining pressure on the edge of the blade to remove material from the blade. Either the shaped wheel is fixed and the edge of the cutting blade is then applied to the abrasive surface of the grinding wheel so as to remove the corresponding material from the blade. In these two configurations, when the cutting blade has a cutting edge which is not rectilinear, it is possible to use a wheel of cylindrical shape of revolution, the blade must then be rotated according to the radius of its edge. cutting, or use a shaped wheel that takes the radius and shape of the cutting blade so that the blade enters the shape of the grinding wheel along a straight path. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION Compared to the prior art, the present invention provides a new method of making a serrated toothing on a cutting blade, simple to implement and economical.
More particularly, according to the method according to the invention, the cutting blade is pressed to form in relief on one of its edges a series of notches spaced with a regular pitch, then grinding a notched face of the cutting blade to using a flat abrasive surface to remove material between said notches and sharpen the serrated toothing.
Thus, thanks to the method according to the invention, the desired notched toothing is easily obtained with good repeatability. The process in accordance with the invention makes it possible to obtain serrated toothing of a quality superior to that obtained traditionally because the heating of the cutting blade is less important.
Other advantageous and non-limiting features of the process according to the invention are as follows: during the stamping operation, the cutting blade is cut to the desired shape; the flat grinding operation is performed in a single pass on a single toothed face of the cutting blade; the stamping operation is performed on a heat-treated cutting blade; and after the flat grinding operation of the cutting blade, a surface treatment of the cutting blade is carried out.
The invention also relates to an installation for implementing the aforementioned method, which comprises a stamping device comprising a two-part press bearing the notches of a notch to be affixed to the edge of a cutting blade as well as a grinding wheel having an abrasive flat surface (no relief) adapted to be applied against a notched face of the cutting blade to remove material between said notches and to sharpen the serrated toothing of the cutting blade. Finally, the invention relates to a knife obtained using the aforementioned method which comprises a blade whose two opposite faces comprise notched toothing, sharpened on one of said faces.
OF AN EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENT The following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of non-limiting examples, will make it clear what the invention consists of and how it can be implemented.
In the accompanying drawings: - Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of three quarters of a raw cutting blade; FIG. 2 is a diagrammatic perspective view of a drawing device for the rough cutting blade of FIG. 1; Figs. 3A and 3B are top and bottom perspective views of the embossed cutting blade; Figure 4 is a view of one end of the cutting blade embossed during its sharpening with a grinding wheel; Figure 5 is from below of Figure 4; Figure 6 is a view of the other end of the cutting blade as it is sharpened with a grinding wheel; and Figs. 7A and 7B are perspective views from above and below of the sharpened cutting blade. In Figure 1 there is shown a rough cutting blade 10 on which 20 will be made notched toothing using the method according to the invention. This cutting blade 10 may be a blade of any knife or a blade of a robot or an industrial blade adapted to cut all kinds of materials such as steel, copper, and aluminum, paper, cardboard, wood and plastics.
This raw cutting blade 10 has a constant thickness i.e. it is not beveled or chamfered on the edge which will receive the serrated toothing. It is made of metallic material such as steel and it can be heat treated.
The number and characteristics of the thermal treatments of the cutting blade 10 depend on the use for which it is intended and therefore on the steel used.
These heat treatments can be carried out in an oven, vacuum, carpet, flame, induction or laser. Generally, we first make a quench then between one and three incomes. According to a first step of the method, shown in FIG. 2, the raw cutting blade 10 is pressed to form a notch 12 on one of its edges 11, that is to say a series of notches 12A spaced apart from each other. a regular step P (see FIGS. 3A and 3B). The spacing step P of the notches depends on the use of the cutting blade 10, it can vary between 1 and 10 mm.
As more particularly shown in FIG. 2, stamping of the rough cutting blade 10 is achieved by means of a stamping device 100 which comprises a two-part press 110,120. Each part 110,120 of the press has on its inside 111,121 the working imprints 113, 123 of the notch 12 to be affixed to the edge 11 of the cutting blade 10 and a 112,122 shaped imprint to form said blade. Moreover, with the aid of the stamping device 100, during the stamping operation, the cutting blade 10 is cut to the desired shape. Thus, the raw cutting blade 10 is disposed between the two parts 110, 120 of the press which close over it to stamp it and conform to the desired shape. Figures 3A and 3B show the cutting blade 10 stamped at the outlet of the press. As shown in these figures, the notch 12 is printed on the upper and lower faces 10A, 10B of the cutting blade 10. According to a second process step, shown in FIGS. 4 to 6, a toothed surface 10A is ground. of the cutting blade 10 by means of an abrasive flat surface 201 for removing material between said notches 12A and sharpening the serrated toothing 13. The flat grinding operation is carried out in a single pass on a single face 10 to 10 of the cutting blade 10. As shown in FIGS. 4 to 6, the grinding operation is carried out by means of a grinding wheel 200 having a flat surface 201 (free of any relief) abrasive which is applied against the notched face 10A (the upper face) corresponding to the cutting blade 10 to remove material between said notches 12 and to sharpen the toothed teeth 13 of the cutting blade 10.
At the output of the grinding operation, the cutting blade 10 has an upper surface 10A ground (see Figure 7A) and a lower face 10B which further comprises a portion of the relief of the notch 12 (see Figure 7B). The cutting blade 10 then comprises a serrated toothing 13, sharpened on one of its faces 10A. After the flat grinding operation of the notched cutting blade 10, it is advantageous to perform a surface treatment of the cutting blade 10. In particular, the surface treatment may consist in applying a vacuum vapor deposition coating which improves the sliding properties of the blade, its surface hardness and thermal barrier also increasing the resistance of the cutting edges. According to the method, it can also be provided a finishing step (marking and packaging) of the cutting blade which depends on the product range and the needs of the user.
The present invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described and shown, but the skilled person will be able to make any variant within his mind.
