Abstract

The invention relates to a device which, by means of a geographical location system, enables a mobile telephone to dynamically control its parameters. A system for acquiring the position of the telephone (1) transmits this position to a module decision-maker (2), which consults location-related information contained in a "map module" (3) and user profile information contained in a "user module" (4), in order to send an order to the setting system phone settings (5) .The device according to the invention is particularly intended to automatically disable the ringing of mobile phones in cinemas, theaters, etc..

Description

The present invention relates to a device for controlling

  automatically the settings of a mobile phone according to the location where it is, and according to the characteristics of the user.

  Mobile phones contain operating parameters such as tone, ring volume, vibrate mode ... In general, in the phone menu, a setting system allows the user to manually change the phone settings . The principle of the invention is to control these operating parameters automatically, depending on the location of the phone. In the current state of the art, a mobile phone has the ability to locate in real time, thanks to many systems such as satellite location, triangulation via the network of telecommunication operators, inertial systems, etc. It is therefore technically possible, by knowing the location of the phone, to act automatically on the operating parameters of the phone. For example, if the phone is in a movie theater, it could automatically switch to silent mode so as not to disturb the audience. Today, each setting of the phone must be done manually, with the risk of forgetting the user. The device according to the invention overcomes this disadvantage. The device communicates with an input module, the Geographic Position Acquisition System, and an output module, the Telephone Parameter Adjustment System. These 2 modules, external to the invention, already exist in the current state of the art, as explained in the preceding paragraph. The device itself is composed of three modules: - The main module, called Decision Module - 2 A secondary module called Cartographic Module which contains a list of geographical coordinates as well as the characteristics of each place. - Another secondary module called User Module that contains parameters specific to the user, in particular the conditions for setting the phone. The Decision Module is in regular communication with the input module (acquisition of geographical position). According to the data recorded in the Cartographic Module, he deduces the place where it is, and the characteristics specific to this place. In addition, thanks to the User Module, he deduces what action he must take vis-à-vis the phone settings. Finally, it sends a command to modify the parameters to the telephone system's parameter output module. It should be noted that the physical distribution between the modules of the device of the invention is variable: it may be an integrated system where the entire device is embedded in the telephone. - The device can be external, that is to say out of the phone, which sends remote parameter setting orders. 25 - The device can be mixed, that is to say that some modules or parts of modules are located in the phone, and others outside. Finally, the mode of communication between the modules of the device - as well as the mode of communication between the device and the input and output modules - is also variable: depending on the physical distribution of the modules, the communication can be done, as non-limiting examples, by data exchange via an electronic circuit or electromagnetic frequencies.

Figure 1 shows the general scheme of the device and the environment in which the device operates.

Figure 2 shows an embodiment of the device for a particular application. With reference to these drawings, in FIG. 1, the geographical position acquisition system (1) communicates the coordinates of the telephone to the Decision Module (2). This Decision Module interrogates the Cartographic Module (3) to deduce the characteristics of the place where it is located and the User Module (4) to deduce the type of action desired by the user. Finally, it sends to the telephone parameter setting system (5) an order to modify one or more parameters of the telephone. The perimeter of the device according to the invention is the set consisting of the Decision Module (2), the Cartographic Module (3) and the User Module (4). Figure 2 illustrates an embodiment, which is to inhibit the ring volume of a mobile phone with a satellite location receiver, depending on where it is located. In this example, a user (1) is provided with a mobile phone (2) equipped with a satellite tracking system, and is in a place (3) where the ringing of telephones is prohibited (for example in a movie theater). On a regular frequency, a satellite (4) sends (5) to the phone the information enabling it to locate itself. In parallel, the telephone communicates by electromagnetic waves (7) with an antenna (6) of the infrastructure of the mobile operator, and retransmits the operator its precise geographical coordinates. Computer software located on one or more servers (8) contains the entire device of the invention (the decision module, which is a computer application, and the cartographic and user modules which are databases). The cartographic module contains the coordinates of the cinema where the user is located, as well as the characteristics of this place (for example the hours of the sessions, therefore the time ranges where the ringing is prohibited), the level of ring volume tolerated. The User module contains the characteristics of the user who has subscribed to this service (for example the fact that he accepts that the ringing of his phone is automatically deactivated or that the choice is proposed by an alert message to the user. Once the setting action is well defined, the server sends, via the computer of the telephone operator (9) and the infrastructure of the mobile network, a silent setting order (disabling the ringer) on the phone . When the user leaves this place, by the same method, a ringer reactivation order will be sent. At the level of industrial applications, the device according to the invention is capable of being implemented in the form of a mobile service with added value, proposed both to customers wishing not to disturb those around them by an untimely ringing, and managers of so-called silent sites (theaters, cinemas, hospitals, etc.). A computer application implementing the device can be downloaded into the phone. A database representing the map module and the characteristics of the user can be initialized during the installation of the software on the phone, or updated via the network of the telephone operator.

Claims (9)

  1) Device for automatically controlling the parameters of a portable communication device according to the location where it is located, provided with a geographical position acquisition system (1) and a system for adjusting the device parameters portable communication device (5), characterized in that it comprises a decision module (2) capable of analyzing the current position of the portable communication device, and from information on the place contained in a cartographic module (3) and / or information on the user desired setting mode contained in a user module (4), to transmit an order to the parameter setting system of the portable communication device.
