The purpose of the present invention, hereinafter also referred to as "Scan + system", is to record radiological examinations on digital media for purposes of communication, archiving, comparison of examinations, subsequent analyzes. The originality of the Scan + system lies in the creation of an interactive radiological report by establishing hypertext links between the text and the images (digital fusion of the report and the images). The originality of the Scan + system also lies in the automatic creation of a summary of images (editing on digital media, paper and film printing, subsequent analysis ...).
The interests of the interactive radiological report and the automatic image summary are multiple. They facilitate the reading of the exams by the correspondents, particularly CT scanners and MRIs of last generations (400 to 1200 images). They facilitate the understanding of the diagnosis (text-image links). They facilitate the work of radiologists in creating a visual of the most important images. They facilitate finally the passage to the diffusion of the radiological examinations on digital supports increasing the user-friendliness.
The Scan + system also represents a remarkable time saver for its users. Indeed, the radiologist names the images orally at the same time as his report. The report is then typed normally. The Scan + system then automatically generates the interactive radiological report and the image summary.
As an illustration, the following is a typical sequence of the main steps of the method according to the invention.
Step 1: The radiologist dictates or taps a radiological report by selecting key images that are particularly relevant from all the images taken during a specific radiological examination. In the case where it is originally dictated, this report is then typed.
Step 2: The report thus typed as well as all the images taken during the given radiological examination are sent to computer equipment equipped with the Scan + system.
Step 3: The Scan + system analyzes the report and generates links, particularly hypertext links, between the text of the report and the key images selected by the radiologist.
Step 4: The Scan + system produces an interactive report as well as a summary of the key images selected by the radiologist.
Step 5: The Scan + system edits a hardcopy summary of the keyframes selected by the radiologist.
Step 6: The Scan + system also edits an electronic medium, in particular of the CD ROM or DVD ROM type (in Dicom format and / or other image formats) containing the interactive report, the summary of the key images selected by the radiologist, the whole of the radiological examination, a software for reading the images and the report, allowing in particular, in the absence of hypertext links, a syntactic analysis and a visualization of the associated images, and this at each -reading. The interactive report, the summary of the key images selected by the radiologist and the entire radiological examination performed can also be broadcast via various computer communication networks, particularly of the Internet type, internal networks. . According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the creation of the summary of the selected key images can be performed manually. The system Scan + according to the invention thus enables the radiologist to create an unlimited number of image summaries, including several image summaries corresponding to the same radiological examination.
Advantageously, the Scan + system also makes it possible to make comparisons between several radiological examinations or between several series of the same radiological examination.
Advantageously, the Scan + system makes it possible to carry out an efficient archiving intended in particular to facilitate the research relating to former radiological examinations.
