Abstract

<P> The present invention relates to a display module by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light emitting diodes making up a screen or a screen portion, comprising a diode support card, means for controlling them and a chassis for receiving the assembly. According to the invention, the chassis comprises: 1) two side panels (3a, 3b) provided with reception faces of two opposite edges of the support card, each panel comprising a wing (21a , 21b) oriented towards the rear and inside of the chassis; 2) at least one connecting piece (7) extending between the ends of the wings (21a, 21b) and the connecting piece (7) comprising assembly means for their joining; 3) a cover (6) closing the chassis by applying to the side panels (3a, 3b) in the continuity of their receiving faces for the support card. The invention also relates to a display device comprising one or more modules according to the invention. </P>

 The present invention relates to a display module by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light-emitting diodes.

 Each of the modules according to the invention makes it possible to compose a screen portion in order to produce, by their combination, a display device.

 The invention may find its application in the field of the creation of large screens whose images are generated by the switching on and off of a plurality of light-emitting diodes organized by groups (pixels).

 In known manner, the display systems include a support for the diodes and are made in one piece. They are therefore difficult to transport, to handle and are of high cost.

 In addition, they have a fixed screen format that cannot be adapted according to the customer's needs and needs.

 In particular, the size of the pitch (spacing existing between the groups of light-emitting diodes called pixels) is fixed, for a display system and cannot be modified.

 Likewise, the overall screen size cannot be changed.

 In the case where the systems must be large, the techniques known up to now have major drawbacks.

 As already explained above, these systems are not adaptable and require the manufacture of as many types of systems as desired formats for the screen and for the size of the pitch.

 In terms of manufacturing, large display systems require special manufacturing. More specifically, when certain parts of the

 systems are made by aluminum extrusion, the large dimensions generate an additional cost and an increase in dimensional deviations due to manufacturing tolerances.

 The current systems are therefore particularly expensive and are not satisfactory in terms of adjustment.

 The present invention overcomes the drawbacks of the systems known hitherto.

 To do this, it proposes a display device capable of being made up of different parts called below modules.

 A first advantage of the invention is that the modules are adaptable in format and pitch size according to the needs of the application without modifying the rest of the organs of the device.

 What is more, the assembly is adjustable to obtain a precise dimensional format and to make up for dimensional differences due to manufacturing tolerances.

 It will be noted that, according to the invention, many parts are common, whatever the format of the desired device. What is more, the parts are reduced in size, even for composing large screens, hence a reduction in dimensional deviations and manufacturing costs given that dies of a conventional type can be used.

 Another advantage of the invention is that it offers, in a preferred embodiment, a take-up of the games generated by the manufacturing. We can therefore perfectly adjust each of the modules on the device and avoid any problem of correspondence and connection of the connection elements.

 Other objects and advantages will appear during the description which follows which presents a preferred embodiment of the invention which is however only indicative and not limiting.

The present invention relates to a display module by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light-emitting diodes making up a screen or a screen portion, comprising a diode support card, means for their control and a chassis. reception of the assembly characterized by the fact that the chassis comprises:
1) two side panels provided with receiving faces of two opposite edges of the support card, each panel comprising a wing oriented towards the rear and the interior of the chassis;
2) at least one connecting piece extending between the ends of the wings and the connecting piece comprising assembly means for their joining;
3) a cover closing the chassis by applying to the side panels in continuity with their receiving faces for the support card.

 This module may be presented according to the variants set out below: the assembly means comprise means for adjusting the spacing of the side panels produced by the connecting piece; the adjustment means consist of a tenon and a rebate, said tenon being insertable into said rebate according to an adjustable depth.

 - the length of the side panels is adaptable according to the length of the support card.

 The present invention further relates to a display device by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light-emitting diodes making up a screen, comprising one or more masts oriented along parallel longitudinal axes and carrying at least one module provided with 'an outer face forming a portion of the screen.

 According to preferred embodiments, this device is such that:

 the masts are hollow and receive means for distributing the power and data to the modules; the distribution means comprise, for each module, a plate provided with connection means connectable, through a hole formed in the mast to complementary connection means that comprise the module control means; the plates are mounted in two longitudinal grooves forming a slide and stopped in translation by means of at least two retaining screws each orthogonally passing through the bottom of a longitudinal groove to be applied in a slot formed in the edge of the plates; the slots have a dimension greater than that of the cooperating part of the retaining screws to preserve a residual freedom of movement for the connection of the connection means.

 The attached drawings are given as indicative and non-limiting examples. They represent a preferred embodiment according to the invention. They will allow the invention to be easily understood.

 Figure 1 is a partial view of the outer face of a device according to the invention as it appears to the observer.

 Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of Figure 1 illustrating the main structural elements of the device according to the invention.

 Figure 3 is a more precise cross-sectional view of a module according to the invention.

 FIG. 4 is an exploded view of certain components of the module according to the invention and shows diagrammatically the possibilities of format adaptation.

 Figure 5 is a partial cross-sectional view of certain elements of the device according to the invention illustrating more precisely the connection elements.

 FIG. 6 is a partial view in longitudinal section of part of the structure of the device according to the invention.

 Referring to Figure 1, the display device according to the invention is composed of a plurality of modules 1 juxtaposed and superimposed.

 It immediately appears that the adjustment in position of the modules 1 is fundamental for the restitution of a global image of good quality.

 The module 1 according to the invention is described more precisely below.

 In a manner known per se, the module 1 comprises a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LED Light Emitting Diodes) which are switched on or off to produce a light emission. The diodes 4 appearing in particular in FIG. 3 are organized by constituent groups of pixels. Each pixel is spaced from the next by a distance commonly known as Pitch.

 As illustrated in FIG. 3, the diodes 4 are mounted on a support card 5, preferably of substantially rectangular shape and of small thickness.

 In addition to supporting the diodes 4, the card 5 can also be used to receive control devices for lighting the diodes 4.

 In general, means 13 for controlling the ignition of the diodes 4 are present in the module 1.

 The attachment structure of the support card 5 is produced by a frame for receiving the assembly thus constituted by the card 5 and the diodes 4.

 Typically, the frame comprises two lateral panels 3a, 3b preferably produced symmetrically with respect to a median plane orthogonal to the screen.

 On the side facing the outside face constituting the screen, the side panels 3a, 3b comprise a face for receiving at least a portion of the support card 5.

 Still with reference to FIG. 3, it can be seen that the side panels 3a, 3b, each further comprise a wing 21a, 21b which is oriented towards the rear of the module 1 and towards the interior thereof.

 In this way, an interior space is preserved in the module 1 allowing the passage of the various electrical elements necessary for controlling the lighting of the diodes 4.

 To assemble the two side panels 3a, 3b, the end of the wings 21a, 21b cooperates with a connecting piece 7 for their connection. Assembly means 8a, 8b are provided on said ends and on the connecting piece 7 for this purpose.

 The connection (s) 7 therefore connect the side panels 3a, 3b substantially at the rear of the module 1. To finalize this connection, a cover 6 is present substantially at the front of the module 1. This cover 6 is attached to the side panels 3a, 3b and is applied at least to a portion of these in order to provide continuity for the receiving faces of the support card 5.

 A preferred embodiment is also presented in FIG. 3 and in FIG. 4.

 Advantageously, the assembly means 8a, 8b illustrated in FIG. 3 allow adjustment of the relative position of the two side panels 3a, 3b. It is therefore possible to modify the spacing thereof by means of adjustment.

 According to a preferred variant, the adjustment means are produced by a cooperation of tenon 11 and rebate 12.

Figure 4 shows an exemplary embodiment.

 By choosing a sufficient length of tenon, it is possible to adjust the insertion depth of the tenon

 11 in the rebate 12 in order to modify the general spacing of the side panels 3a, 3b.

 In this way, we can make up for any dimensional play due to manufacturing tolerances.

 This possibility of adjustment makes it possible to adapt the format of the side panels 3a, 3b to the size of the screen to be formed.

 As can be seen from FIG. 4, the length of the side panels 3a, 3b is adaptable according to the length of the support card 5. The larger the support card 5, the more it is possible to place diodes 4 or d 'increase the size of the pitch. Indeed, for large screens and observed from a distant position, it may be sufficient to opt for a large pitch size which reduces the resolution of the screen but which generates a significant financial saving in the manufacture of the device. .

 Preferably, the interior volume of the chassis thus delimited by the side panels 3a, 3b, the connecting piece 7 and the cover 6 is further closed at its upper and lower ends by two plug pieces (not shown).

 These plug parts substantially match the thickness of the wings 21a, 21b, of the cover 6 and of the connecting piece 7.

Bonding can secure them.

 With regard to the reception of the support card 5, FIG. 3 shows that it is part of the steps formed at the edge of the side panels.

 This same walking profile can be formed on the other two edges of the chassis (here substantially horizontal) to produce a continuous rectangular frame in which the support card 5 is embedded.

 The present invention also relates to a display device capable of integrating a plurality of modules 1 as described above.

 Referring to Figure 2, we see that the device comprises several masts 2 having longitudinal axes preferably vertical and parallel to each other and fixed in the ground.

 Each mast 2 can receive one or more modules 1 superimposed. Furthermore, the juxtaposition of the masts 2 ensures the formation of a more or less wide screen.

 Preferably, the masts 2 serve not only as a mechanical structure for supporting the modules 1, but also for supplying and distributing the supply and control data signals to the modules 1.

 To achieve this, the masts 2 are preferably hollow as shown in particular in FIG. 2 and receive means 20 for distributing power and data to the modules 1.

 FIG. 6 shows the formation of such distribution means 20. Essentially, they comprise cabling 16 ensuring the distribution of the power on the one hand, and of data on the other hand.

 The distribution means 20 also comprise for each module a plate 15 (for example a printed circuit board) receiving connection means 14a which can be connected to complementary connection means 14b, present in the control means 13 of module 1 .

 As appears more precisely in FIG. 5, the plate 15 is positioned longitudinally opposite a module 1 and cooperates with it by connection means 14a, 14b passing through a hole made in the front face of the mast 2.

 In order to ensure the adjustment of the longitudinal positioning of the plates 15, these are mounted in two longitudinal grooves 9a, 9b, formed on the side walls of the mast 2 so as to constitute a slide.

 The masts 2 being preferably vertical, the grooves are also formed longitudinally and vertically and receive the vertical lateral edges of the plates 15.

 To stop each of the plates in translation 15, an assembly of at least two holding screws 17a, 17b of the plate 15 is formed.

 In doing so, each retaining screw 17a, 17b crosses orthogonally the bottom of a longitudinal groove 9a, 9b, as can be seen in FIG. 5.

 In addition, to ensure effective retention, the retaining screws 17a, 17b cooperate with a slot 19 formed on the vertical edge of the plates 15.

 Figure 6 illustrates a sectional view. A stop opposing the vertical displacement is thus produced.

 Preferably and always for the sake of adjusting the adjustment, the slots 19 have a dimension slightly greater than that of the cooperating part of the retaining screws 17a, 17b.

 In this way, a slight play in translation is preserved. In doing so, it is possible to precisely connect the connection means 14a, 14b, without generating any stress in them.

 This prevents any breakage or damage to the connection plugs.

 As for the lateral adjustment of the modules 1, this arrangement ensures a vertical adjustment which allows manufacturing using conventional tolerances in order to limit the manufacturing cost while ensuring optimal adjustment during assembly.

 The cables 16a, 16b are, in the example of FIGS. 5 and 6 respectively, flexible cables for supplying electrical energy and for transferring the data signals (necessary for commands).

Furthermore, the plates are preferably printed circuit boards serving:
1) To achieve electrical continuity between the vertical portions of cabling 16a, 16b, as shown in FIG. 6.

 2) To distribute the data signals and the electrical energy necessary for the operation of the module opposite plate 15.

Claims (7)

 1. Display module (1) by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light-emitting diodes (4) making up a screen or a screen portion, comprising a support card (5) for the diodes (3), means (13) for their control and a chassis for receiving the assembly, characterized in that the chassis comprises: 1) two lateral panels (3a, 3b) provided with reception faces of two opposite edges of the support card (5), each panel comprising a wing (21a, 21b) oriented towards the rear and the interior of the chassis; 2) at least one connecting piece (7) extending between the ends of the wings (21a, 21b) and the connecting piece (7) comprising assembly means (8a, 8b) for their joining; 3) a cover (6) closing the frame by applying to the side panels (3a, 3b) in the continuity of their receiving faces of the support card (5).
 2. Module (1) according to claim 1 characterized in that the assembly means (8a, 8b) comprise means for adjusting the spacing of the side panels (3a, 3b) produced by the connecting piece (7 ).
 3. Module (1) according to claim 2 characterized in that the adjustment means consist of a stud (11) and a rebate (12), said stud (11) being insertable in said rebate (12) according to an adjustable depth.
 4. Module (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterized in that

 that the length of the side panels (3a, 3b) is adaptable according to the length of the support card (5).
 5. Display device by controlling the ignition of a plurality of light-emitting diodes (4) making up a screen, comprising one or more masts (2) oriented along parallel longitudinal axes and carrying at least one module (1) provided with an external face forming a portion of the screen characterized in that the modules (1) conform to one of claims 1 to 4.
 6. Device according to claim 5 characterized in that the masts (2) are hollow and receive distribution means (20) of the power and data to the modules (1); the distribution means (20) comprise, for each module (1), a plate (15) provided with connection means (14a) connectable, through a hole formed in the mast (2) to connection means ( 14b) complementary that comprise the control means (13) of the module (1); the plates (15) are mounted in two longitudinal grooves (9a, 9b) forming a slide and stopped in translation by means of at least two retaining screws (17a, 17b) each passing orthogonally through the bottom of a longitudinal groove ( 9a, 9b) to be applied in a slot (19) formed in the edge of the plates (15).
 7. Device according to claim 6 characterized in that the slots (19) have a dimension greater than that of the cooperating part of the retaining screws (17a, 17b) to preserve a residual freedom of movement for the connection of the connection means (14a, 14b).
