Abstract

ADAPTER TO MALE PLUG

INTERCHANGEABLE

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

  1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to adapters for electrical outlets and more particularly an adapter comprising an interchangeable plug plug which can be easily replaced for different

types of sockets.

  2. Description of the related technique

  The specifications of plugs and sockets are different in different countries. Therefore, when a person travels to another country, it is possible that the male plugs of his personal electrical appliance (s) cannot fit into the

  female sockets of the electrical outlets existing in this country.

  To solve this problem, an adapter is provided, as shown in FIG. 1. This adapter comprises a cover 1 ', a housing 2', a male plug plate 3 'and conductive parts (not shown). It is formed in the cover 1 'several insertion holes 10' which allow to introduce different types of plugs. The housing 2 'comprises a side wall, in which a slot 20' is formed and nesting housings 21 ', and a lower face in which are provided two insertion slots 22'. When the male plug plate 3 ′ is assembled with the housing 2 ′, the lug-shaped element 30 ′, the two interlocking elements 31 ′ and the two insertion elements 32 ′ interlock respectively in the 20 'slot,

  nesting housings 21 'and the insertion slots 22' of the housing 2 '.

  The conductive parts are mounted in the housing 2 'so as to electrically connect the pins of a male plug, introduced into the adapter through the insertion holes 10', with pins standing on the male plug plate 3 ' . This adapter allows the user to replace the

  male plug plate 3 'by another fitted with another type of pins.

  On the other hand, a drawback of this type of adapter lies in the fact that the separation of the male plug plate 3 ′ is quite laborious work to perform, since, to disengage the nesting elements 32 ′ from the socket housings 22 ', for example a screwdriver should be used as an aid. This is extremely inconvenient for the user, since the user may not always have a screwdriver on hand. In addition, after a frequent change of male plug plate 3 ', the interlocking elements 32' could break, this

  which would make the adapter unusable.

  Furthermore, the adapter is provided with three elastic pieces 4 '.

  When the male plug plate 3 'is fixed to the housing 2', the conductive parts (not shown) are electrically connected by means of these elastic parts 4 'to the fixed ends 34' of the pins 33 'provided on the plug plate male 3 '. However, these elastic parts 4 ′ fall from their position when the male plug plate 3 ′ is separated from the housing 2 ′ to replace it, since they are mounted in a floating manner

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

  This is why a main object of the present invention is to provide an adapter comprising an interchangeable male plug plate, equipped with several male plug pins, which it is possible to easily replace with another fitted with different pins corresponding to

  different types of sockets.

  Another object of the present invention is to provide an adapter comprising an interchangeable male plug plate which resists over time for frequent replacement corresponding to different types of

female sockets.

  Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an interchangeable plug adapter which is provided with attached elastic conductive parts which do not fall from their position

  when separating the male plug from the housing.

  To achieve the above goals, as well as others, the subject of the invention is a new and improved interchangeable plug adapter, comprising: a housing which has a bottom wall and four side walls and in which are made of the first means of interlocking on the bottom wall and a vertical sliding slot on one of the side walls, a male plug plate which comprises a base plate and several male plug pins standing on the base plate and on which are produced second interlocking means intended to cooperate with the first interlocking means, several conductive parts mounted in the housing, a cover covering the housing and retaining means fitted into the sliding slot and serving to retain the male plug plate, the retaining means being able to be locked at least in a higher position and a lower position eure io vis-à-vis the side wall in which the sliding slot is formed, in which the male plug plate is mounted in position on the housing by making the second interlocking means provided on the male plug plate cooperate with the first interlocking means provided on the housing and by moving the retaining means to the upper position in which the male plug plate is retained by the retaining means, and in which the male plug plate is separated from its position by moving the retaining means to the lower position in which the male plug plate is released vis-à-vis the retaining means, which

  allows the male plug to be removed by hand.

  The adapter includes a housing, several conductive parts, a cover and a male plug. The housing has a bottom wall and four side walls formed on the bottom wall. Furthermore, it is produced on the housing of the first interlocking means comprising several housings or lugs on the bottom wall. There is also produced on one of the side walls a vertical sliding slot comprising an opening opening into the bottom wall. Retaining means are slidably fitted into the sliding slot. The retaining means consist of a sliding part which has an upper end on which a stop tab or a stop housing is produced and which can be locked at least in an upper position and a lower position thanks to the cooperation of at least one projecting part, which projects on at least one face of the sliding part, with at least two recessed parts formed on at least one side wall of the sliding slot or, as a variant, at least one part recessed, formed on at least one face of the sliding part, with at least two projecting parts which project on at least one side wall of the sliding slot. The male plug has a base plate and a plurality of male plug pins that stand on the base plate. It is also produced on the base plate of the second fitting means consisting of several tabs or housings making it possible to form an assembly by tab and housing with the first fitting means produced on the housing, while a housing of stop 1 0 or a stop tab intended to cooperate with the stop tab or the stop housing of the sliding part is produced in the vicinity of the rear edge of the base plate. In addition, the conductive parts are mounted in the housing so as to electrically connect the pins of a male plug, introduced into the housing by insertion slots formed in the

  cover, with the male plug pins of the male plug plate.

  The male plug plate is put in place on the housing by making the second interlocking means provided on the male plug plate cooperate with the first interlocking means provided on the housing and by moving the sliding part to the position upper in which the stop lug is fitted in the stop housing of the male plug plate. When the user wishes to replace the male plug plate with another having a different type of male plug pins, he simply pushes the sliding part down, which allows the projecting part located on the sliding part to pass from its nesting in the upper recessed part to its nesting in the lower recessed part formed in the sliding slot, or allows the recessed part located on the sliding part to change position. This will pop the stop tab out of the stop housing located on the back side of the male receptacle plate. Thus, the male plug plate can be removed freely by

  the user to be replaced.

  It is also possible to use the adapter in a male socket. In such a case, the housing consists of an upper wall, a bottom wall and four side walls, while a pair of conductive parts is mounted in the housing. In addition, an electric wire is connected to the adapter by passing an insertion hole made in the upper wall of the

adapter housing.

  The subject of the invention is also an adapter with an interchangeable male plug plate, comprising: a housing which has a top wall, a bottom wall and four side walls and in which first means of fitting are produced on the bottom wall , a vertical sliding slot on one of the side walls and at least one insertion hole formed in the upper wall, a pair of conductive parts mounted in the housing, a male plug plate which comprises a base plate and several male plug pins standing on the base plate and on which are made second interlocking means intended to cooperate with the first interlocking means located on the housing and retaining means fitted in the sliding slot and serving to retaining the male plug plate, the retaining means being able to be locked at least in a higher position and a lower position higher than the side wall in which the sliding slot is formed, in which the male plug plate is mounted in position on the housing by making the second interlocking means provided on the male plug plate cooperate with the first interlocking means provided on the housing and by moving the retaining means to the upper position in which the male plug plate is retained by the retaining means, and in which the male plug plate is separated from its position by moving the retaining means to the lower position in which the male plug plate is released vis-à-vis the retaining means, which

  allows the male plug to be removed by hand.

  DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED MODE OF

PRODUCTION

  Referring to Figures 2 and 3, the adapter of the invention comprises a housing 1, a cover 2, covering one side of the housing 1, and a male plug plate 3 which can be electrically connected to the conductive parts (not shown), located in the housing 1, when

is assembled to housing 1.

  The housing 1 is practically a cubic body comprising a bottom wall 11 (shown high for bottom in FIG. 2) and four vertical side walls 10Oa, 10Ob, 10Oc and 10Od. On the bottom wall 11, wing walls 12a, 12b, 12c are formed which are extensions of the side walls 10a, 10b, 10c. Furthermore, two interlocking holes 13 are formed in the wall forming a wing 12a and two interlocking grooves 14b,

  14c are provided respectively in the walls forming wing 12b, 12c.

  In the bottom wall 11, there is an elongated slot 110 in the middle and two pairs of substantially square slots 111, 1 12 in the vicinity of two edges. These slots 110, 111, 112 expose the contact parts 15 of the conductive parts located in the housing 1. A sliding slot 16 is arranged vertically in the middle of the side wall 10d and a sliding part 17 is slidably fitted in the sliding slot 16. A stop tab 170 is formed at the upper part of the sliding part 17. Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 5, it is formed on the sliding part 17 two projecting parts 171 located on its two sides in the vicinity of the upper part and there is formed in each side wall of the sliding slot 16 a first recessed part and a second recessed part 161. The two recessed parts 160, 161 allow the sliding part 17 to stop in two positions defined by these recessed parts when it slides in the sliding slot 16. Insertion holes 20 are provided in the cover 2 and the latter is mounted on the housing 1 by high frequency welding, using

  glue or other fixing means.

  As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the male plug plate 3 includes a base plate 30 on which male plug pins 31 stand. Each pin 31 has a rear end 32 fixed to the base plate 30 and exposed on the rear face of this base plate 30 as shown in FIG. 3. When the base plate 3 is mounted on the housing 1, the part exposed from the rear end 32 of each male plug pin 31 comes into electrical contact with one of the contact parts 15 located on the bottom wall 11 of the housing 1. On the base plate 30 is formed a pair of first legs 33 on the front edge and a pair of second legs 34, which are elongated, respectively on the lateral sides. Furthermore, a housing 35 is provided in the vicinity of the rear edge of the base plate 30 to receive the stop tab 170 located on

the sliding part 17.

  During assembly, the cover 2 is fixed to the bottom wall 1 1 of the housing 1. The male plug plate 3 is then mounted on the housing 1 by introducing the first tabs 33 of the male plug plate 3 into the nesting holes 13 of the housing 1 and the second tabs 34 in the nesting grooves 14b, 14c. After that, the sliding part 17 is pushed upwards so as to allow the projecting part 171 of this sliding part to be moved from the first set back part 160 to the second set back part 161, which allows the stop tab 170 of the sliding part 17 to be fitted into the housing 35 of the rear face of the male plug plate 3, as shown in FIG. 6. The male plug plate 3 is thus fixed in place. This completes the assembly of

  the adapter, as shown in Figure 4.

  When the user wishes to replace the male plug plate 3 with another having a different type of male plug, he only has to push the sliding part 17 down, which allows the projecting part 171 of the sliding part 17 to be moved from the second recessed part 161 to the first recessed part 160. This extracts the stop tab from the housing 35 of the rear face of the male plug plate 3. Thus, the male plug plate 3 can be freely removed by the user. The new plug connector can be mounted in the same way as

  this has previously been described.

  When the male plug plate 3 is fitted in place on the housing 1, the respective rear ends 32 of the blades 31 come into electrical contact with the contact parts 15 of the conductive parts

  10 (not shown) located in the housing 1.

  The invention has been described using a preferred embodiment presented by way of example. It should however be understood that the scope of the invention is not limited to the embodiment described. On the contrary, it is intended to cover various similar arrangements and modifications. The

  scope of claims should therefore be accorded to

  the widest interpretation so as to encompass such arrangements

analogues and modifications.

Claims (8)

  1. Interchangeable male plug adapter, comprising: a housing (1) which has a bottom wall (11) and four side walls (10a, 10b, 10c, 10d) and in which first interlocking means are produced (13, 14b, 14c) on the bottom wall (11) and a vertical sliding slot (16) on one (10d) of the side walls, a male plug plate (3) which comprises a base plate ( 30) and several plug pins (31) standing on the base plate (30) and on which are made second interlocking means (33, 34) intended to cooperate with the first interlocking means (13) , several conductive parts (15) mounted in the housing (1), a cover (2) covering the housing (1) and retaining means (17) fitted into the sliding slot (16) and serving to retain the plate male plug (3), the retaining means (17) being able to be locked at least in a higher position and a e lower position vis-à-vis the side wall (10d) in which the sliding slot (16) is formed, characterized in that the male plug plate (3) is mounted in position on the housing (1) in making the second interlocking means (33, 34) provided on the male plug plate (3) cooperate with the first interlocking means (13, 14b, 14c) provided on the housing (1) and by moving the means of retaining (17) to the upper position in which the male plug (3) is retained by the retaining means (17), and in that the male plug (3) is separated from its position by moving the retaining means (17) up to the lower position in which the male plug plate (3) is released vis-à-vis the retaining means (17), which makes it possible to remove the male plug plate (3 ) by hand. 2. Adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that it is formed in the bottom wall (11) of the housing (1) several holes (112)
  used to expose the conductive parts.
  3. Adapter according to claim 2, characterized in that the conductive parts (15) enter into electrical connection with the male plug pins (31) located on the male plug plate (3) when the plate
  male plug (3) is mounted on the housing (1).
  4. Adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that, in at least one side wall of the sliding slot (16), there is provided at least a first recessed portion (161) and a second recessed portion (160) , the first recessed part (161) defining said upper position and the second recessed part (160) defining said lower position 0o, and in that the retaining means consist in that a projecting part (171) is formed on at least one lateral side, so that, when the projecting part (171) is housed in the first recessed part (161), the retaining means are locked in the upper position and, when it is housed in the second set back (160), the means of retention are
  locked in the lower position.
  5. Adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one projecting part is formed in at least one side wall of the sliding slot and in that at least a first recessed part and a second recessed part are arranged in at least one side of the retaining means, so that, when the projecting part (171) is housed in the first recessed part (161), the retaining means are locked in the upper position and, when it is housed in the second recessed part (160), the means of
  retained are locked in the lower position.
  6. Adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that the retaining means consist of a sliding part (17) on an upper end of which sliding part (17) is formed a stop tab (170) intended to cooperate with a stop housing (35) formed in the
  lower surface of the male plug plate (30).

Interchangeable plug adapter, comprising: a housing (1) which has a top wall, a bottom wall (11) and four side walls (1Oa, lob, 10c, 1Od) and in which are made first fitting means (13, 14b, 14c) on the bottom wall (11), a vertical sliding slot (16) on one (10d) of the side walls and at least one insertion hole made in the upper wall, a pair of conductive parts mounted in the housing (1), a male plug plate (3) which comprises a base plate (30) and several male plug pins (31) standing on the base plate ( 30) 0o and on which are produced second interlocking means (33, 34) intended to cooperate with the first interlocking means (13) located on the housing (1) and retaining means (17) fitted into the sliding slot (16) and serving to retain the male plug plate (3), the retaining means open (17) which can be locked at least in an upper position and a lower position vis-à-vis the side wall (10Od) in which the sliding slot (16) is formed, characterized in that the male plug plate (3) is mounted in position on the housing (1) by making the second interlocking means (33, 34) provided on the male plug plate (3) cooperate with the first interlocking means (13, 14b, 14c ) provided on the housing (1) and by moving the retaining means (17) to the upper position in which the male plug (3) is retained by the retaining means (171), and in that the male plug (3) is separated from its position by moving the retaining means (171) to the lower position in which the male plug (3) is released vis-à-vis the retaining means (171 ), which allows the male plug plate (3) to be removed by hand. 9. Adapter according to claim 8, characterized in that, in at least one side wall of the sliding slot (16), there is provided at least a first recessed portion (161) and a second recessed portion (160) , the first recessed part (161) defining said upper position and the second recessed part (160) defining said lower position, and in that the retaining means consist in that a projecting part (171) is formed on at least one lateral side, so that when the projecting part (171) is housed in the first recessed part (161), the retaining means are locked in the upper position and, when it is housed in the second part set back (160), the means of retention are
  locked in the lower position.
  10. Adapter according to claim 8, characterized in that at least one projecting part is formed in at least one side wall of the sliding slot io and in that at least a first recessed part and a second part withdrawal are provided in at least side of the retaining means, so that, when the projecting part (171) is housed in the first recessed part (161), the retaining means are locked in the upper position and, when is housed in the second recessed part (160), the means of
