Abstract

The invention concerns the creation and adaptation of pipe organs so that the organist does not directly hear the sound of the organ pipes, but only the relaying of this sound, all this being carried out instantaneously. When the organist plays at A, he operates by remote control on the instrumental part located at B. The sound produced by the pipes at B is picked up by microphones and relayed at A by loudspeakers. The device is more particularly useful for using the pipe organ in a more mobile manner and for modifying the relayed sound relative to the original sound.

NEW MUSIC INSTRUMENT WITH REMOTE CONTROLLED PIPES
The present invention relates to the field of mechanics and more specifically to that of musical instruments.

It relates more particularly to a pipe organ having a particular configuration and which can be controlled remotely.

It specifically relates to a pipe organ capable of being moved, conventionally comprising a console controlling a set of wind tunnels by pipes and the pipes producing the sound of the organ, characterized in that the organist while playing on a console located in one place, acts by remote control on the instrumental part formed by a succession of organ pipes which emit the sound, possibly placed in a closed enclosure which can be opened and which can remain open, defined by the term organ buffet.

The present invention relates to a technical extension of the traditional pipe organ. In the configuration presented below, with its flexibility of use and the possibilities of sound transformation thus provided, it can be considered as a new musical instrument.

The pipe organ is a very large and very sonorous instrument, difficult to transport. It is very sensitive to changes in temperature, which takes a very long time. it is therefore unthinkable to quickly have a medium-sized organ (let alone a very large instrument) in a concert hall or on a television set. The organ is traditionally used in the following way: the organist activates mechanisms which release pressurized air to different pipes; all these pipes produce the sound of the organ.

The organist is located near this sound source; he directly hears the sounds produced by the instrument he plays.

In the device according to the invention, the instrument is divided and distributed in two places: the console (organist's control station comprising keyboards, pedal board, game prints) is placed in one place, the rest of the instrument being elsewhere, with the peculiarity that the place does not matter as long as the sound of the pipes cannot be directly perceived by the organist.

When the organist plays on the console located at A, he acts by remote control (electric cable, optical fiber, infrared ray, laser beam, telephone link, satellite link or other ...) on the instrumental part located at B. The latter , receiving these orders from the console makes the corresponding pipes speak. The sounds, picked up by one or more microphones, are retransmitted at A, where the organist is located. This return link of the sound makes it possible to make modifications between the sound directly produced by the pipes at B and that which will be restored on arrival at A, by correcting for example the reverberation, or by bringing distortion. We can also bring a lot of room for maneuver on the sound volume. The return sound is transmitted by loudspeakers (or by headphones). The time between when the organist presses a key and when the loudspeakers reproduce the corresponding sound is considered negligible for the ear, that is to say less than half a second.

While it is not difficult to build new organs designed to receive orders from a remote control, it is no more difficult to equip existing instruments in this way, including historical instruments. The device according to the invention allows new uses which can be illustrated by a few non-limiting examples:
Playing in an organ apartment, the instrumental part of which is in the cellar.

 e Playing in a church organ apartment.

e Playing the organ in a recording studio or on a television set
of a famous cathedral like that of Chartres.

During the same concert in a Pleyel hall, play live from the organ of St
Jakobi from Hamburg, then from Geneva Cathedral, and finally from that
from the famous known for example the hall of the Cité de la Musique in Paris.

 Play all of these instruments at the same time.

The invention thus defined in broad outline can be used for other types of instruments which can be partitioned under the same conditions.

Figure 1 in the appendix illustrates the assembly diagram. Box A shows the location of the console on which the organist plays, arranged in location A, for example in a concert hall.

Box B indicates the location of the instrumental part of the organ, for example that of a renowned cathedral such as the Chartres cathedral.

The arrow from A to B symbolizes the control of the console towards the instrumental part.

The arrow from B to A symbolizes the return of the sound produced by the pipes perceived by the organist in his headphones or by a separate enclosure.

Claims (6)

1. Musical instrument with pipes, in particular an organ characterized in that it  has two separate parts, the first part being formed by a console  including keyboards, pedals and game prints, part two  comprising a set of organ pipes, the first and second parts being  linked together by a remote-controlled connection device. 2. Musical pipe instrument according to claim 1 characterized in that it  is formed by adaptation of already existing organs into a musical instrument in  two parts of which the console and the traditional pipe set constitute two  separate parts. 3. Two-part musical instrument according to claim 1, characterized in  that there is a connection device between a single console and one or  several organs arranged in different locations. 4. Musical instrument according to one of claims 1 to 3 wherein  the pipe musical instrument consists of a console including  keyboards, pedalboards and game prints, arranged in a particular place and a set of  pipes arranged in another location characterized in that the two parts are  linked together, by remote control and in that the musical sounds are emitted  by the pipes. 5. Musical instrument according to claim 1 wherein the connection between the  two parts of the musical instrument is performed by transmissions  electric or electronic. 6. Musical instrument according to claim 5 wherein the console is movable  and is connected to the organ play by a remote transmission device,  electric.
