Abstract

The lens comprises an assembly of a simple lens (1) and an optical converging objective lens (2). The objective lens has a circular hole in its centre, to forming a bifocal lens allowing plain and simultaneous vision of the objective image and of a reference graticule. The optical objective can be a divergent eyepiece lens with a central circular opening, to allow simultaneous viewing of the objective image and the sighting reference. A number of lenses can be used.

Description

The purpose of this document is to present the invention of the simplest bifocal optical lens, allowing the simultaneous viewing of two images, in particular in the application of a precision viewfinder.

Observing an image and data external to this image simultaneously is a known problem. Different solutions exist such as the semi-transparent slide, the projection of one image onto another, the reticle superimposed on an image ... or even the bifocal lens. The classic sight (target, handlebars, eyecup, eye) is limited in precision mainly because the eye cannot see the handlebar and the target clearly simultaneously. The quality rifle scope is perfect, but is a complex, heavy and expensive optical assembly. The precision bifocal lens is also expensive and complex to produce. Bifocals or progressive focal lenses of eyewear opticians are useless in this application since they do not allow multiple simultaneous visions.

The simple bifocal lens is a solution to this problem. It consists in adding in the useful part of the lens a cutting zone allowing the simultaneous vision of two images downstream of the latter. A simple implementation is explained below in the application of the Galileo telescope transformed into a precision viewfinder. The drawing in the annex illustrates the invention. The figure shows a schematic perspective of the viewfinder. The arrow gives the direction of the light. The optical element (1) is the converging objective, which forms the real image downstream of the eyepiece. The optical element (2) is the eyepiece, a divergent lens pierced with a circular hole in its center, allowing the simultaneous vision of the objective image and the sight mark, here a cross placed on the objective (1 ). It is indeed the appropriate shape and position of the cut in the diverging ocular lens, which in its application transforms this simple lens into a simple bifocal lens, and which at the same time transforms the Galilean telescope into a precision viewfinder. The invention does not limit the lens in vergence nor the position and the shape of the cut, only the simultaneous optical use of this cut and the lens, to constitute a superposition of images, transforms it into a simple bifocal lens. The cutting could even be multiple. In the example, but not limiting, the cutout is a simple circular hole in the center of the lens, with a diameter of around one third that of the pupil of the eye, so that the image contrast pattern is suitable .

The simplicity of the cut, its shape and position, the manner of making it and the characteristics of the lens, constitute the essential attractions of the simple bifocal lens in its industrial applications. Image overlay is the first application, inexpensive, high-precision lightweight simple viewfinders are another, as with competition compound bow sights.
