Abstract

A cylindrical or similar shock-absorbing component (1) is located between two adjacent vertebral projections (E1,E2) to receive artificial ligaments which pass through its central aperture. Eyelet components (3,4) are located on either side of holes formed in the vertebral apophyses, to receive transverse fasteners (6) to which the end portions (5) of the ligaments are attached. The eyelets each consist of a pair of washers, with interengaging flanges extending inwardly of the apophyse hole to engage each other. The end portions of the ligaments include loops which engage over a bolt or similar fastener passed through the passage defined by the interengaging flanges of the washers.
