Abstract

The prosthesis consists of a shank (1) which bulges at its proximal end, which is connected by a base (2) and a neck (3) to a cone (4). The proximal end of the shank has a series of surface grooves (20A-20D), all but one of which has a rounded closed end before it meets the base. The shank comprises diaphysial (10) and epiphysial (13) sections, with the grooves only in the latter; each groove's rounded end is an a quarter olive shape, about 4mm across and 5mm long by 1mm deep.
