Abstract

An elongate tubular probe (1) is partially surrounded by an inflatable balloon (2) which is connected at the distal, exterior end of the probe to an inflating valve (4) via a conduit (5) attached to the probe body. The balloon is formed with a spinning-top shaped configuration corresponding to that of the prostatic chamber. The lower end (3) of the balloon includes a portion of increased wall thickness, extending around its entire circumference. The increased resistance to inflation of this portion defines the top-shaped configuration of the balloon on inflation. ADVANTAGE - Avoids risk of post-operative haemorrhage and infection of prostate gland.

Description

SONDE URINAIRE A BALLONNET HEMOSTATIQUE
HEMOSTATIC BALLOON URINARY PROBE
The present invention is a urinary catheter intended to avoid one of the main post-operative disadvantages of prostate surgery, which is post-operative hemorrhage.

The existing probes (given the shape of the balloon) do not in fact make it possible to contain the hemorrhage satisfactorily at the level of the bottom of the prostatic compartment, this very vascularized compartment having the shape of an egg cup.

- la figure 1 représente une sonde urinaire classique en place dans la loge prostatique;
The present invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, with reference to the appended drawing, in which
- Figure 1 shows a conventional urinary catheter in place in the prostate gland;
- Figure 2 shows the probe according to the present invention, placed in the prostate gland; and
- Figure 3 shows a sectional view of the probe according to the present invention.

The balloon of the proposed probe is characterized by its shape of an inflatable top (2), conforming to the entire wall of the compartment, including the bottom which is thus compressed, which prevents any bleeding.

It is adaptable to any existing urinary catheter. For this purpose, the balloon (2) will be positioned on the probe itself (1) so that the system once in position, i.e. the balloon (2) located in the prostate gland, the proximal end ( 1) the probe is clearly in the bladder. The monobloc probe-balloon system thanks to its protruding and endovesical end is used to drain the urine and, thanks to its balloon it ensures the hemostasis of the prostatic compartment hollowed out after operation.

It is characterized by the fact that it is made of very flexible atraumatic synthetic material (identical to that of the urinary catheter) integrating with the catheter (1). The top shape of the balloon will be obtained by any suitable means. According to a preferred embodiment, the wall will be thicker over the entire circumference at the bottom of the router (3) in order to obtain less swelling at this location than at the top of said router (2).

As with any existing analog device, inflation is obtained from the inside using a valve (4), the channel (5) of which is located in the wall of the probe.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS INVENTION
1) Avoid the often significant post-operative haemorrhage, sometimes requiring resumption of surgery for haemostasis in the hours following the first intervention.

3) Avoid any retrograde infection thanks to the shape of the balloon which will prevent any local microbial progression towards the prostate gland and from there towards the bladder.

4) For all of the above, the length of hospital stay will be significantly shortened with all the obvious advantages that this entails.

Claims (2)

1) Urinary probe with hemostatic balloon constituted by a probe proper (1) around which an inflatable balloon (2) is incorporated, said balloon (2) being connected to the distal and external end of the probe by an inflation valve (4) by means of a channel (5) incorporated in the wall of the probe, probe characterized in that the inflatable balloon (2) has the shape of a top designed so as to follow the whole of the wall of the prostate gland hollowed out after operation and by the fact that it is positioned on the probe itself (1) so that the proximal end of the latter is largely protruding and able to drain urine from the bladder . 2) Sonde urinaire selon la revendication 1), caractérisée en ce que le ballonnet (2) comporte en sa partie inférieure (3) un renforcement en épaisseur sur toute sa circonférence de manière à réaliser après gonflage le ballonnet en forme de toupie.  2) urinary catheter according to claim 1), characterized in that the balloon (2) has in its lower part (3) a thickness reinforcement over its entire circumference so as to achieve after inflation the balloon in the shape of a spinning top.
