Abstract

On each object to be marked, a location having an elongate shape in the direction of passage of the object in the printing or reading machine is reserved for receiving encoded information. This location, having a well-defined position with respect to the edge of the object via which it enters the abovementioned machine is itself divided into successive compartments which are allocated to the encoded representations of the diverse meaningful information. For printing encoded meaningful information and, if appropriate, unencoded information which accompanies them, this information is distributed on removable characters (3) having dimensions equal to the respective dimensions of the compartments reserved on the object. These characters (3) are fastened side by side on a rotary cylinder (1), in an arc of a circle of equal length to the sum of the lengths of the said compartments.

Claims

1.
