Abstract

The complex material is intended for making clothing capable of protecting against splashes of molten materials and, more particularly, molten metals in the metallurgical industry. These splashes generally cause serious burns which can be fatal. No current material meets the required conditions of effectiveness. It consists of an assembly of three superposed layers of cloth having specific characteristics: the first layer, intended to form the outer part of the garment, has a relatively smooth surface state and comprises at least one fabric composed mostly of heat-stable or fireproof fibres having a high covering factor; the second, intermediate, layer is thick and has an open structure; and the third layer, intended to form the inner part of the garment, is thin and light.
