Description

METHOD AND MACHINE FOR MAKING A TWO-PART PACKAGE
  The invention relates to a method and a machine for carrying out
two-part packaging.
  The packaging to which the invention applies is specially intended for eggs and comprises two parts rigidly associated with each other, namely, an upper tray and a lower bottom. The upper plate is made for example of thermoformed plastic and has hollow cells normally open green at the top, distributed in rows and columns as well as longitudinal edges which, when the packaging is in its normal position for use, it that is to say flat horizontally, are arranged at least substantially vertically and directed downwards. The upper bottom is made for example of cardboard and has foldable longitudinal and lateral flaps normally arranged at least substantially vertically and directed upwards. the edges and the corresponding flaps are applied against each other and associated
  rigidly between them by gluing in particular.
  The upper tray has a tormented shape, more or less complex, suitable for receiving the content to be packaged, in particular eggs. Due to its embodiment, its intrinsic resistance is quite low and, in particular, the edges can sink if a force is applied in the horizontal direction perpendicular to the edges (relative to the normal position of the packaging). The upper tray fulfills, as follows from the above essentially, a function of receptacle and wrapping of the content. The bottom bottom fills, meanwhile,
  essentially a holding or rigidity function.
  Since the flaps are foldable, they can be pivoted around their fold line. Once the tray and the bottom are assembled together, the packaging has the required strength and rigidity. On the other hand, the internal space between the tray and the bottom is closed and inaccessible from the outside. This results in a real problem during the production of the packaging. Indeed, the inaccessibility of the internal space does not allow the accommodation of a

  counterpart allowing a transverse force of application for the bonding of the edges and the flaps, counterpart which would be all the more necessary as the edges have, in themselves, a specific resistance
rather weak.
  The invention therefore aims to solve the problem of the reciprocal rigid association - in particular by gluing - of foldable edges and flaps belonging respectively to a tray and to a bottom, in the case where, on the one hand, the edges have, in itself, a fairly low resistance and on the other hand, the internal space formed by the plate and the bottom is
inaccessible from the outside.
  Another object of the invention is to produce packaging such as that described previously in an industrial manner, that is to say, with a high rate, a cost as low as possible, excellent operational safety, excellent quality of the packaging produced. A process for manufacturing packaging for eggs is already known (French patent 2,480,178). However, this process does not allow the
  production of packaging such as that described above.
  There is also known a method and a device for obtaining a two-part packaging to know a cardboard bottom with flaps and a thermoformed plastic sheet rigidly associated with the bottom (French patent 2,411,701). In this known method and device, thermoforming and the association of the thermoformed sheet are simultaneously carried out at the bottom, the bottom having been previously placed in the thermoforming mold. This known method and device are therefore of complex implementation and do not allow high rates. In addition, they present the risk of an inconsistency in the quality of the packaging produced due in particular to the simultaneity of a large number of operations: thermoforming in the
cardboard background, collage, etc ...
  The invention therefore first proposes a method for producing a packaging, in particular for eggs, of the type comprising two parts rigidly associated with each other, a lower bottom and an upper plate, one of the parts - in particular the bottom - comprising of
  foldable flaps and the other part - including the tray -

  comprising edges, characterized by the fact that: * A bottom and a preformed tray are first grasped separately, the flaps being flat, not folded; then one placed on top of the other, the bottom and the tray thus seized and pressed against one another; and finally fold the flaps and rigidly associate them with the edges. The invention also provides a method for gripping a preformed tray from a stack of trays nested one inside the other, the trays being of the type comprising at least one and generally several cells joined by an upper face to which the edges of the same side as the cells, in particular by implementing the process for producing a package mentioned above, characterized in that the first plate is initially maintained by its upper face; then at least substantially simultaneously, first grasp and then move the first plate on the one hand, through the interior of its cells and, on the other hand,
by the free edges of its songs.

  The invention finally proposes a device for feeding trays more specifically intended for this machine, characterized in that it comprises a conveyor belt with stepping drive means; a fixed plate coplanar to the mat; a lateral clamping plate movable between a clamping position and a retracted position of the claws or the like, movable between an active position and a retracted position; a mobile transverse pusher frame with longitudinal sliding between a retracted rear position and a
position before exit.
  The invention will be clearly understood with the aid of the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a schematic view, in perspective, illustrating the sequence of the main phases of the process for producing the packaging according to the invention, the input phase of a plate and the phase of rigid association of the bottom and the plate not being
shown in detail.
  Figures 2A to 2D are four schematic sectional views illustrating

  Figures 3A and 3B are two schematic sectional views illustrating
  in more detail the phase of entering a tray.
  Figures 4 and 5 are two schematic front and top views respectively of a possible embodiment of a machine for
  packaging according to the invention.
  Figure 6 is a more detailed view of the means for supplying funds as well as means for setting up pressing and folding the flaps. Figure 7 is a more detailed view of the tray supply means. The invention relates to a method and a machine for producing a package 1 which is not in itself the subject of the invention, in particular for eggs, of the type comprising two associated parts.

  The bottom 2 is lower and made in particular of cardboard so as to have a certain strength or rigidity. It has a lower horizontal main wall 4, generally of rectangular shape, and four respectively longitudinal 5 and lateral 6 flaps associated with the wall 4 by fold lines 7. The bottom 2 can then appear initially and before constitution of the packaging 1 in the form of a flat cut. Once incorporated into the packaging 1, the flaps 5, 6 - after their folding around the lines 7 - are arranged at least substantially vertically and directed upwards, that is to say at least substantially perpendicular to the wall 4 The plate 3 is upper and produced in particular by means of a thermoformed plastic sheet. It comprises, firstly, hollow cells 8, normally open upwards, generally distributed in rows and columns, associated with one another, on the side of their openings by coplanar plates constituting an upper face 9 and, secondly , four longitudinal 10 and lateral 11 edges respectively adjoining the upper face 9 on the same side as the cells 8. According to the invention, the plate 3 is preformed and the edges 10, 11 are arranged at least substantially vertically and directed downwards , that is to say, at least
  substantially perpendicular to face 9.
  Once assembled to constitute the packaging 1, the bottom 2 and the plate 3 are rigidly associated with one another by the flaps 5, 6 and the edges 10, 11, these preferably being glued. In

  in particular, the free edges 12, coplanar, of the edges 10, 11 rest on the wall 4 at the location or in the immediate vicinity of the fold lines 7. The free edges 13 of the flaps 5, 6 are located between the wall 4 and the face 9, that is to say that the flaps 5, 6 do not project above the face 9. Preferably, on the one hand, the flaps 5, 6 are outside and the edges 10, 11 to the inside and, on the other hand, the flaps and the edges 5L 6, 10, 11 are slightly inclined on the vertical, by a few degrees, the packaging 1 thus having a generally external truncated pyramidal shape with a large lower base (wall 4) and small base
upper (side 9).
  In the method according to the invention (FIG. 1), a bottom 2 and a preformed plate 3 are first grasped, the flaps being flat, not folded; then the bottom 2 and the plate 3 thus seized are placed one on the other and they are pressed one against the other; and finally, fold the flaps 5,
  6 and they are rigidly associated with the edges 10, 11.
  Preferably, funds 2 and plates 3 are produced beforehand, the funds 2 being able to be stacked flat and the preformed plates 3 being able to be stacked, embedded or nested one inside the other. To place the bottom 2 on the plate 3, we put the free edges 12

This last function is achieved by the fact that on the one hand, the edges 10, 11 are tensioned, due to the pressing exerted on the wall 4 and the upper face 9 and that, on the other hand, the free edges 12 of the edges, 11 are prevented from sliding on the wall 4 due to the pressing exerted.

  The folding of the flaps 5, 6 around the folding lines 7 aims to pass them from their original position where they are coplanar to the wall 4 and in which the plate 3 is placed on the bottom 2, to their final position where they are applied to edges 10, 11, to
  the outside, at least substantially perpendicular to the wall 4.
  The flaps 5, 6 are rigidly associated with the edges 10, 11, in particular by gluing or even by welding, by ultrasound, or any equivalent means. Thus, preferably, the flaps 5, 6 are folded while maintaining, at least temporarily, the bottom 2 and the plate 3 pressed against each other. In addition, to rigidly associate the flaps 5, 6 with the edges 10, 11, the flaps 5, 6 and / or the edges 10, 11 are glued and the
  flaps 5, 6 against the edges 10, 11.
  Finally, after associating the flaps 5, 6 with the edges 10, 11, we

  The invention also relates to a method for gripping a preformed tray 3 of the type described above from a stack of preformed trays 3 nested one inside the other. This input method is more particularly, but not limited to, applicable to the input method
  packaging realization described above.
  In this gripping method, the first plate 3 is initially maintained by its upper face 9; then at least substantially simultaneously, first grasping and then moving the first plate 3 on the one hand, through the interior of its cells 8 and, on the other
  part, by the free edges 12 of its edges 10, 11.
  In addition, immediately before gripping the first plate 3 by its free edges 12, the edges 10, 11 of the second plate 3 are deformed inwards so as to favor the extraction of the first
  tray 3 relative to the second tray 3.
  The first plate 3 is initially maintained by the edges of its upper face 9 adjoining the edges 10, 11. The first is grasped
  tray 3 by the interior of its cells 8 by suction.
  Finally, the stack of trays 3 is maintained by lateral tightening when
we move the first plate 3.
  It is clear that in the packaging production method according to the invention, it is possible to use a method for gripping the plate 3 different from that described here, either that the plates 3 arrive in successive unitary fashion, or that the first plate 3 of a stack
  of trays 3 is entered in another way.
  Reference is made to FIGS. 3A and 3B which make it possible to clearly understand the variant proposed as regards the gripping phase of the plate 3. In this variant, the plates 3 are stacked and fitted together with a first front plate 3 (referenced 3 1 ), a second plate 3 placed immediately after the first plate 31 (referenced

  Initially (FIG. 3A), the first plate 3 is maintained by its upper face 9, in particular by its edges adjoining the edges 10, 11. Then, simultaneously (FIG. 3B), the first plate 31 is grasped, forwards by its alveoli 8, by suction and, towards the rear, by its free edges 12. For this step, the edges 10, 11 of the second plate 32 are previously deformed inwards and the stack of plates 3 is laterally tightened.   comprising edges 10, 11. This machine comprises: separate means for gripping a bottom 2 and a preformed plate 3, respectively 15 and 16; means 17 for placing the bottom 2 and the plate 3 thus gripped one on the other; means 18 for pressing the bottom 2 and the plate 3 against each other; folding means 19 for the flaps 5, 6 in particular capable of

  In one possible embodiment (FIGS. 4 and 5), the machine is of the carousel type and comprises an indexed wheel 20 of axis 21, preferably horizontal, having at least three but preferably four work stations 22, driven step by step. A particular variant comprises (FIG. 4) a deflecting plate 39, a receiving plate 40 both intended to guide a package 1 in line with the gripping member 26 of the evacuation station 223 towards a evacuation mat 41 or the like. The means 15 for gripping the bottom 2 comprise on the one hand, the belt 33 and on the other hand, a plate 42, horizontal, placed in the downstream area 36 vertically and below the frame 19 and the member 26 of station 222, mobile with vertical sliding between two extreme positions, respectively retracted lower and upper
  discharge with an intermediate pressing position.
  The plate 42 is located to the right of the belt 33. To avoid any interference between them, the belt 33 can be of small transverse width and the plate 42, have two parts on either side of the belt 33. In particular, belt 33 is unique
  and axial and the plate 42 in two symmetrical parts.
  The external dimensions of the plate 42 are at most and preferably close to that of the wall 4, that is to say,
up to the fold lines 7.
  The plate 42 is for example carried by the rod 43 of a jack 44 disposed orthogonally to the axis 20 and below the plate 42 and
the belt 33.
  In its intermediate position, the plate 42 is at least substantially coplanar with the belt 33. This intermediate position occurs in the middle of the operation of the positioning and association station 222 (FIGS. 2B and 2C). In its lower position
  retracted, the plate 42 is inactive and housed under the belt 33.
  This retracted and inactive lower position occurs at the start of the operation of the positioning and association station 222 (FIG. 2A). In its upper evacuation position, the plate 42 is spaced vertically and upwards above the belt 33 and therefore is then closest to the axis 21. In this upper evacuation position, the plate 42 supports the bottom 2 away from the
2606327 14 belt 33. This upper position occurs at the end of the
  operation of the establishment and association station 222.
  The means 16 for gripping the plate 3 comprise the suction gripping member 26 and the supply means 23 of associated plates described later. The means 17 for placing the bottom 2 and the plate 3 on top of each other comprise, on the one hand, the gripping member 26 in the station 222 as well as the drive means 27 and in that they drive the gripping member 26 towards its extreme external position, that is to say towards the
  belt 33 and, on the other hand, belt 33 in its downstream region 36.
  The means 18 for pressing the bottom 2 and the plate 3 against each other comprise on the one hand, the gripping member 26 in the station 222 as well as the drive means 27 in that they are suitable maintaining the gripping member 26 in the extreme external position, and on the other hand, the plate 42 and its associated drive means 43, 44; the drive means 27, 43, 44, urging the
  grip 26 and the plate 42 one towards the other.
  The machine also comprises means for longitudinal gluing in two parts 38a and 38b, and means for lateral gluing in two parts respectively upstream and downstream 45a, 45b. These sizing means are constituted by nozzles projecting glue, such as hot melt glue, a relative displacement existing between the nozzle and the
  bottom 2 to form a line of glue.
  The gluing means 38a, 38b, 45a, 45b have the function of depositing lines of glue on the logitudinal 5 and lateral flaps 6. The two parts of the longitudinal gluing means 38a, 38b are placed opposite one of the other, on either side of the means 24 for supplying the funds 2 in particular in the intermediate zone. The longitudinal gluing means 38a, 38b operate "in the process" when
  of the longitudinal movement of the bottoms 2 on the belt 33.
  The two parts of the upstream lateral gluing means 45a and downstream 45b are placed respectively at the start and at the end of the downstream zone 36,

  in particular on either side of the frame 19, of the gripping member 26 and of the plate 42 in the longitudinal direction of movement of the belt 33 and the bottom 2. The two parts of the lateral gluing means 45a, b are mounted with transverse horizontal sliding and driven on either side of the supply means 24 by means of drive means, not shown, such as a jack. For example, a cylinder
  drives a carriage carrying the two parts 45a, 45b.
  The gluing means 38a, 38b, 45a, 45b are placed vertically above but close to the plane of the belt 33 or the plate 42 in
intermediate position.
  The machine also comprises folding means 46 for the flaps 5, 6 around the fold lines 7, vertically and upwards for the
bring against the edges 10, 11.
  These folding means 46 are constituted, for example, by a frame placed horizontally around the plate 42. The frame 46 is movable with vertical sliding between two extreme positions, respectively retracted lower and upper folding. The frame 46 is, for example, carried by the body of the jack 44, this jack body being movably mounted to slide along a vertical axis. This arrangement facilitates the realization of the drive means of the plate 42 and the frame 46 so that they can be moved independently of one another, but in combination. the body of the jack 44 can then be driven by one or more jacks or even by
a cam.
  As follows from the above, the frames 19 and 46 have at least substantially the same opening. In the retracted extreme lower position, the frame 46 is located under the belt 33. This position occurs at the start of the operation of the second station 222 (FIGS. 2A and 2B). In the extreme upper position, the frame 46 is located immediately above the belt 33. This position occurs at the end of the operation of the second station (Figures 2C and 2D). In this upper position of the frame 46, the plate 42 can also be in an upper upper position above the frame 46 and this
  in the last stage of operation of the second station 222.

  The machine operates as follows: A plate 3 is gripped by the gripping member 26 at station 221. At the same time, a bottom 2 flat is delivered by the supply means 24 to the downstream area 36 of station 222. The rotation of a pitch of the wheel makes it possible to bring the plate 3 to station 222. The use of gluing means 38a, 38B, 45a, 45b has made it possible to glue the faces
internal flaps 5, 6.
  The bottom 2 and the plate 3 at station 222 are opposite and vertically vertically from one another but initially spaced from one another, the gripping member 26 being in its extreme interior position, the plate 42 and the frame 46 in their lower retracted extreme position (FIG. 2A). Then, the gripping member 26 is brought into the extreme external position, until the free edges 12 are in abutment on the bottom 2. Simultaneously, the plate 42 is brought to the intermediate position so as to firmly hold the bottom 2 in the plane of the belt 33 (Figure 2B). Then, the gripping member 26 and the plate 42 remain in this same position and the frame 46 is moved to its extreme upper folding position (FIG. 2C). In this situation, the bottom 2 and the plate 3 are pressed simultaneously, one against the other, to ensure the rigidity of the edges 10, 11 by tensioning as indicated above and the folding of the flaps 5, 6 against the edges 10, 11. The contact of the flaps, 6 glued and the flaps 10, 11 causes them to join. Then, the frame 46 remaining in its same position, the gripping member 26 and the plate 42 are moved in synchronism vertically and upwards until they reach the inner extreme position and the upper extreme position respectively. It follows the transfer of the bottom 2-plate 3 assembly from the frame 46 to the frame 19, the two frames being placed
  facing each other and in close proximity to each other.
  Another aspect of the invention relates to the feeding means 23 and the gripping means 16. These means are applicable in particular but not
  exclusively for the machine which has just been described.
  The supply means 23 comprise a conveyor belt 47 having a
  step-by-step advancement using appropriate drive means 48.
  The conveyor belt-47 is extended forward by a fixed coplanar plate 49 and in particular horizontal. The conveyor belt 47 and the

  plate 49 allow to support a stack of trays 3 nested
  resting on their particularly longitudinal edges 10 lower.
  The supply means 23 also include a lateral clamping plate 50, in particular at least substantially horizontal, placed above the plate 49, movable for example, pivoting about a transverse axis 51, moved by a jack 52 or similar, between two extreme positions: a clamping position and a retracted position. In the clamping position, the clamping plate 50 is applied to the edges, in particular the upper longitudinal edges 10 of the plates 3. This position occurs at the end of the operation of the station 221 (FIG. 3B). In the retracted position, the clamping plate 50 is separated from the edges of the plates 3. This position occurs at the start of operation of the station 221 (FIG. 3A). The clamping plate 50 has the function of holding the stack of trays 3 when this stack is no longer held by the others
organs of the supply means 23.
  The feeding means 23 also include claws or the like 53a, 53b, at least substantially vertical and transverse, mobile, in particular pivoting about transverse axes 54a, 54b, displaced
  by a linkage 55, itself, controlled by a cam or a jack.
  These claws 53a, 53b are intended to engage on the upper face 9 of the first plate 31 of the stack of plates 3. the claws 53a, 53b therefore constitute a retractable front stop,
  ensuring positive maintenance of the battery.
  The claws 53a, 53b can be in two extreme positions, respectively active and inactive retracted. In the active position, the claws 53a, 53b actually form a front stop for the first plate 31. This active position occurs in particular in the retracted position of the plate 50. In the inactive retracted position, the claws 53a, 53b do not hold the first plate 31 and do not prevent its pressing. This inactive position retracted
  intervenes in particular in the clamping position of the plate 50.
  The supply means 23 finally comprise a pusher frame 56 placed vertically and transversely, movable with horizontal and longitudinal sliding (that is to say, parallel to the direction of the conveyor belt 47 and the plate 49, c ' that is to say also the management

  advancement of the plates 3), by means of a linkage 57 controlled by a cam or a jack. The pusher frame 56 can occupy two extreme positions: a retracted rear position and a front extended position. The pusher frame 56 has an opening 58 corresponding to the outer contour of the plates 3 - that is to say the edges 10, 11- so as to be adjusted to the plates 3, as mentioned below. The opening 58 is preferably pyramidal or beveled so as to be slightly larger at the rear 58a than at the front 58b. More precisely, the rear opening 58a is slightly larger than the largest size of the plates 3 - in particular at the location of the free edges 12 and the front opening 58b is slightly smaller than the largest space of the plates 3 or even slightly smaller than the smallest footprint of the plates 3, in particular at the location of the upper face 9. In this way, the sliding movement of the pusher frame 56 rearward (opposite the claws 53a, 53b) does not create any annoying interference with the stack of trays 3. During the sliding movement towards the front, the front opening 58b forms a stop or pawl and fulfills two functions: on the one hand, slightly deforming the edges inwards 10, 11 of the second plate 32 and, on the other hand, come to lock on the free edges 12 of the first plate 31. As indicated previously, the deformation of the edges 10, 11 of the second plate 32 has itself two functions: first to decrease the friction on each other of the edges 10, 11 of the plates 31 and 32. The second allows air to enter between the two plates 31 and 32 to prevent them from sticking together due to the prevailing depression between them. In the retracted rear position, the pusher frame 56 is located at the rear and away from the claws 53a, 53b, in line with the plates 49 and 50. In the position before output, the pusher frame 56 is located immediately behind the
claws 53a, 53b.
  The supply means 23 are arranged generally horizontally opposite the first station 221, the claws 53a, 53b being close to the station 221. More precisely, the supply means 23 are arranged, relative to the first station 221 so that '' in forward position
  outlet, the pusher frame 56 is located in the immediate vicinity -
  in particular is tangent - to the gripping member 26 in an extreme external position.

  The pusher frame 56 essentially constitutes a unit for extracting a unit from a tray 3 from the stack of the tray 3. The means 16 for gripping the trays 3 thus essentially consist of
  the gripping member 26 and the pusher frame 56.
  The device which has just been described operates as follows: Initially, the clamping plate 50 is in the retracted position, the claws 53a, 53b in the active position, the pusher frame 56 in the retracted rear position, the gripping member 26 in the extreme interior position (FIG. 3A). In this situation, the stack of trays 3 is at rest, the member 26 being devoid of trays. In this situation, the belt 47 can advance by one step to lock the first plate 31 against the claws 53a, 53b. Then, the clamping plate 50 passes into the clamping position, the claws 53a, 53b pass into the retracted position, the pusher frame 56 is slid forward (relative to the direction of advance of the belt 47) and the member seizure 26 is advanced outward. The stack of trays 3 is held between the plates 49 and 50, while the pusher frame 56 extracts the first tray 31 from the stack. Claims (18)
