Abstract
Description
DESCRIPTION
Device using a stereo binocular magnifier as a portable observation instrument in general and in particular as an iriscope.
This device can be used for the study or the observation of anything, of a use requiring or not the mobility and in particular for the study or the observation of the anterior part of the eyes, in particular of the irises.
Generally, we use this kind of stereo binocular microscope in the laboratory or workshop, mounted on a stand, and with fairly rudimentary lighting, this in the field of industry or research
In the medical field, often bearing the name of bio-microscope, we see them mounted on arms as for microsurgery, or on a frame as for colposcopes.
Finally in the field of ophthalmology, magnifying glasses are part of a set called slit lamp, often very sophisticated, making it possible to measure certain characteristics of the eyes, to observe the fundus of the eye, very precise, very expensive and finally badly planned to polish the observation and the study of the anterior part of the eye that is to say, eyelid, conjunctiva, especially iris and pupil or even crystalline cataract formation.
It is precisely to respond to this deficiency and to provide the possibility of a more generalized use at the place of observation, outside the laboratory or the workshop, and in a simple, efficient and very affordable way that this device is designed.

The centerpiece is a stereo binocular magnifier, the eye part (i) of which can be seen in Figure 1, the up / down system (3) with its adjustment knobs (4) and the objective part, here in dotted lines (6). It can have very variable characteristics, both in magnification and in value of the field observed, of the frontal distance, or of the way in which the magnifications are varied, by changing the eyepieces and / or the objectives or else in continuous variation ( zoom).
The optical unit is dressed and protected by a casing (2) which allows the accessories to be added to the assembly, to protect it from dust or even bad weather and to connect it to the handle # support (10). This casing therefore achieves the double function: aesthetic and functional.
According to FIG. 4, an opening is provided on the left side in order to be able to keep the calibration setting for the left eyepiece provided for this purpose. On the top of the casing, an adjustment screw (11) allows to vary the spacing of the eyepieces at the interpupillary distance from the obse # "# - tor. Below, a reinforcement (14) ensures the reception and the fixing of the handle (10) on the ocular side (see fig. 2), the passage of the oculars can be oblong to allow their spacing and their adjustment. On the objective side (see fig. 3), a removable ice system places the objectives ( 21) protected from dust, bad weather, projections while allowing access for cleaning and the choice of filters (20). Two or the (19) open laterally let pass and struggle respectively the two arms ( 8) side lighting.
Three essential accessories are attached to this main body
The first consists of the support system intended to obtain relative immobility when practicing observation.
It can be produced mainly here as an orientable finger (5) held on an axis (22) pivoting in the hole of the stand column. It is tumbled to the right or to the left, depending on the eye observed, and it is held in position by a wedging device (16), visible in FIGS. 2 and 4, on a shaped tarpaulin (17). At the end of this arm or finger (5) the support is made on the bridge of the nose by means of a cushion in the shape of an inverted Vee, articulated on a ball joint. Indeed, the nose represents the closest, most stable and well tolerated support for observing human eyes.
This arm can take different forms and inclinations, as well as the pad, to adapt to all possibilities and situations and for other non-paramedical observations.
On the other hand, the system raises / lowers (3) the magnifying glass, is counted, vé and ensures the adjustment of the frontal distance or focus / sharpness.
The second essential accessory is represented by the lighting system. A support fixed on the frame of the magnifying glass brings together the fixing and the connection of the three light points. The two arms (8) (FIG. 3) are articulated on this support, pass through the two openings (19) and carry the two orientable light points (23) at the end. The lighting points can be produced with integrated miniature lamps, lamps used in optoelectronics or in medicine and already comprising a lens which produces a concentrated beam. A p-filter system can be adapted to any one of the three points, in particular in the center (20) behind the protective glass.
Finally, the third essential accessory consists of a support handle (10) carrying out both the gripping and the support as well as the store of the lighting components. The pilc in particular can be put on a coupler or automatically coupled when introduced into the handle by an orifice or any hatch.
In a variant of the power supply, rechargeable batteries are used with switching on charge when the device is at rest, by connecting it to the 4> 220 V sector via a charger system either integrated or external and independent of the device.
On the top of the handle on the ocular side (figure 2), one can find all the controls (13) grouped as in dashboard (18) while on the other side, under the objectives (figures 1 and 3), fingertip, a wheel or trigger system or any other will adjust the light intensity of the lamps.
The handle can be straight or tilted especially forward to respect the anatomical and physiological position of the wrist. At the bottom, a sole can act as a base, depending on the shape of the handle, the inclination, and have a threaded hole with the standard pitch of the photo foot nuts, so that it can receive any accessory and in particular a wrist strap, in order avoid accidental falls from the device. The strap could be hung by a hole or eyelet provided for this purpose in the bottom rear of the butt. The handle will pass through the center of gravity, giving it greater stability and better handling.
