Abstract

This thermoformed package made of plastic material comprises elements 1 in the form of stamped shells, whose base edge 6 is inclined with respect to the bottom 2 by an angle ss < 90 DEG , in such a way that it takes up a stable attitude when the package is resting on a horizontal surface by the edge 10 of its base 6 and the and the cut rim 7 of the shell. For this purpose the thermoforming mould has lateral walls on its bottom inclined by the angles alpha > 90 DEG and ss < 90 DEG respectively and it is downward inclined from the horizontal by an angle such that vertical withdrawing from the mould can take place. <IMAGE>

Description

 The present invention relates to a thermoformed packaging made of plastic material, for example, which can stand upright on a horizontal surface.

 It is commonly used to present to the public a wide variety of articles, such as tools, various instruments, and even food products and plants, thermoformed plastic packaging in the form of open or closed shells, welded on cardboard or two by two; these packages are most often provided with attachment means to displays. Some packaging used alone, have no holding because of their lightness and lack of seating surface.

 To overcome this drawback, the packaging according to the invention, is in the form of an open shell-shaped rectangular bowl whose base flank is arranged to form a seat allowing the package to stand straight on a horizontal surface.

 For this purpose, this bowl-shaped packaging has a flank that forms an angle slightly greater than 900 with the bottom as in conventional packaging, but the other base flank with the bottom forms an eagle less than 900; thus this flank forms an inclined base from the bottom to the projecting cutting edge so that when the package rests on a horizontal surface, the package is approximately vertical.

By joining two shells thus formed by their cutting edges, it is obtained that the package rests on the median cutting edge and the junction lines of the base flank inclined with the bottom of the shell. It is therefore very straight without risk of breakage:
In order to thermoform a package according to the invention, the mold in which it is thermoformed, has a side with a side forming an angle> 900 with its bottom and the opposite side with an angle less than 900; vertical mold, this mold is inclined downwards relative to the horizontal.

 To facilitate the understanding of this invention, there is shown in the accompanying drawing a packaging of a standard type and a package according to the invention and a diagram of the thermoforming installation.

 Figure 1 is a side view of a common tray-shaped packaging of which Figure 2 is the front view.

 Figure 3 shows a traditional double-hull package.

 Figure 4 shows in profile, the packaging according to the invention.

 Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view of a package with double welded sinks.

 FIG. 6 is a diagram of the theaforming installation and FIG. 7 a section of the thermoforming mold for making the shells according to the invention.

 FIG. 1 shows the profile and FIG. 2 shows the face of a dish in the form of a bowl 1: it has a bottom 2 bordered by two lateral sides 3,4, an upper flank 5 and a base flank 6 along the short edge of the cutting edge 7. The angles tetss aue make these flanks 5.6 with the bottom 2 are necessarily greater than 900 to allow demolding after termoforming: this erected package can not be vertical, as shown in FIG. 1, and because of its lightness, it does not stand alone on a horizontal surface 8. It is the same for a double-hull package according to Figure 3: this lightweight package switches to the right or left.

 The package according to the invention is characterized in that the flank 5 forms with the bottom 2 an angle of more than 900, like a current package, but the angle ssdu flank 6 with the bottom of the shell is less than 90. In this way, as shown in Figure 4, this package can stand straight, the bottom 2 is almost vertical. It rests by the junction line 10 of the bottom 2 and the sidewall 6 and the cutting edge 7.

 A closed package, as shown in Figure 5 consists of two cups 1 and joined to each other by their cutting edges 7. This package is easily held upright, since it can rest on the edge of median section 7 and the edges 10 and 10a of the two shells at the same level as the cutting edge 7 due to the inclination (900 of the sidewalls 6 on the bottom 2.

However, the thermoforming of such a cuvette packaging poses a problem, because the realization of a bowl with an angle / 3 (90 # would not allow vertical demolding,
To allow this demolding, the mold of the thermoforming installation is inclined downwards horizontally, by an angle such that the sidewall 6 is approximately vertically.  The plastic sheet 11 unfolds in the direction of the arrow F above molds, one of which is intended to form any package and the other 13 of which is intended to form the support shell 1. In order to demolding it is na nally that the flanks of the mold 12 to make with the bottom of the mold an angle greater than 900. If the mold 13 was in the stirring of the mold 12, demoulding could not be done because of the inclination of the flank 6 towards the inside of the mold. According to the invention, the mold 13 is inclined downwards on the horizontal by an angle such that demoulding can be done; this angle is at least equal to R. Thus, after thermoforming, the shell can be extracted from the mold 13 since the shell has flanks 5 and 6 open.

 There is shown in the drawing only one element 1 packaging support, but it is obvious that this support can come from molding with any upper part, adapted to the product to present, the element 1 serving as a foot allowing the complete packing to stand vertically thanks to the inclination of the base flank with respect to the bottom.

Claims (5)

- Claims
 1.- Thermoformed plastic packaging capable of standing straight on a horizontal surface, formed of hulls in the form of independent or paired cups, the walls of which form with the bottom a slightly open angle to allow demolding, characterized in that that this base side (6) of the bowl (1) forms with its bottom (2) an angle less than 900 so that when the package rests on the base side (6) and the cutting edge (7) from this base, the bottom (2) is substantially vertical.
 2. Thermoformed packaging composed of pairs of cuvettes (1) contiguous to each other by their cutting edges (7), each cuvette being shaped according to claim 1.
 3. Mold for the manufacture of packaging shells of thermoformed plastic material according to claim 1 characterized in that its bottom forms with a lateral flank at an angle <> 900 and with the opposite lateral flank an angle # ss ego9, and in what in the installation is inclined towards the. low relative to the unwinding plane of the plastic material until the vertical demolding.
