Description
TANDEM ASSEMBLED
The present invention relates to an improvement to military heads used in particular in shells, rockets and missiles for attacking battle tanks whether their armor is simple, laminated, composite or active.
There are already known devices which have been the subject of patents such as the military heads described in the American patent No. 4004-515 and in the French patent PV 75 14 091.
The first document relates to a military head consisting of two coaxial hollow charges with sequential detonation, the charge closest to the target, called the second charge, detonating the last, its top being hollowed out to allow the passage of the jet of the rear charge , called the first charge, which detonates the first. A mechanical projection initiation system ensures a delay between the end of the detonation of the first charge and the start of the detonation of the second charge. Such a device has certain drawbacks.
Indeed, the implementation of this type of solution is delicate because of the absolute necessity of carrying out a resumption of the detonation resulting from the first charge to initiate the second in a rigorously isotropic manner, and of controlling the propagation of parasitic shocks in the outer envelope. It follows, despite strict manufacturing tolerances, a significant dispersion in performance.
The type of military head described in the second document also consists of a double hollow charge produced so that the charge which detonates in the first place (small charge) is located at the front of the projectile. The caliber of this first charge remains significantly lower than that of the second charge (main charge) which is supposed to attack almost all of the protection as soon as the shielding encountered is a standard homogeneous shielding of steel or light alloy. it turns out that on the one hand the size envisaged for the front load does not allow to disorganize the most modern configurations of composite armor (inert or active) and that on the other hand in the case of homogeneous steel armor small diameter channel, practiced by the small charge, constitutes an additional and significant handicap for the perforating power of the main charge, this because of the shock wave effects (direct or reflected waves) induced by the passage of the second jet in the first crater.
There is also known a military head organization which overcomes in part the difficulties listed above: a first hollow charge of large caliber generates a jet at high speed with a very small nucleus. This jet provides a perforation whose diameter is relatively large and which, in the case of active shields, ensures their partial destruction. A secondary hollow charge placed at the rear of the first charge makes it possible to perforate the target by combining its piercing power with that of the first charge. Although versatile, this type of military head particularly favors the aggression of composite targets, because the effectiveness of the second charge remains limited in front of homogeneous targets.
The present invention aims to remedy the drawbacks of the systems described above. We are trying to achieve a military head which ensures a very high level and satisfactory reproducibility of performance against all modern and more conventional protections.
The present invention therefore relates to a military head characterized in that it consists of
- A first formed charge, called flat charge, the coating of which is conical, with an apex angle of between 1250 and 1400 and a thickness of between 1 and 3% of the gauge of the charge.
- une deuxième charge formée , dite charge creuse disposée dans l'axe et à l'arrière de la charge plate, initiée après la première charge avec un retard prédéterminé, dont le revêtement est conique d'angle au sommet compris entre 400 et 600 et d'épaisseur comprise entre 1 à 3 % du calibre de charge. a second formed charge, called a hollow charge placed in the axis and at the rear of the flat charge, initiated after the first charge with a predetermined delay, the coating of which is conical with an angle at the apex between 400 and 600 and of thickness between 1 to 3% of the load rating.
According to another characteristic, the two charges are linked by a fragmentable ferrule which can for example be made of steel, cast iron, light alloy, glass or filament wound. The ferrule can also be weakened.
A screen is arranged between the flat charge and the shaped charge. The distances between the screen and the flat charge, and the screen and the shaped charge are respectively from 0.2 to 0.5 gauge and from 1 to 2 gauge.
The delay in initiating the second charge relative to the first is between 200 and 500 microseconds.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the course of the description which follows made with reference to the single figure which represents a particular embodiment.
- une masse explosive 3 initiée par un système d'amor çage connu de l'homme de l'art et repéré globalement par le repère 4.The explosive charge of the military head represented in the appended figure comprises two charges formed A and B. The charge b, hereinafter called flat charge, is located at the front of the military head, it comprises
- a conical coating 2 made of ductile material, such as copper, with an apex angle equal to 135- and a thickness equal to 2% of the gauge
- an explosive mass 3 initiated by a priming system known to a person skilled in the art and generally identified by the reference 4.
The flat charge is capable of generating a compact and very rapid penetrating projectile whose perforation diameter in the target is between 0.25 and 0.45 charge caliber.
The load B, hereinafter called the hollow load, is located on the axis and behind the flat load A. The coating 5 is conical, with an apex angle equal to 50 and a thickness equal to 2, 5% of its caliber. Explosive 6 is placed behind the coating 5 and is initiated in a conventional manner by the priming device 7. The diameter of the crater formed by the jet of hollow charge in the target is of the order of 0.1 to 0 , 2 caliber.
The two charges A and B are arranged in a fragmentable ferrule 8. In this embodiment, the ferrule is constituted by a steel tube in which recesses are made which allow the projectile to be lightened and the ferrule to become fragile. According to other variants, the shell 8 could be made of steel with incipient fractures in the form of grooves or in the form of localized heat treatment carried out for example by electronic bombardment.
The material constituting the ferrule could also be glass, reinforced or not, light alloy, cast iron or a filament wound.
A screen 9 of conical or possibly planar shape made for example of steel or copper, and of sufficient thickness (in the case of this example: 0.25 charge rating), is disposed between the flat charge A and the hollow charge B.
La fonction de cet écran est de protéger la charge creuse B lors de l'explosion de la charge plate A.The function of this screen is to protect the hollow charge B during the explosion of the flat charge A.
To be effective, the screen 8 must be placed at suitable distances from two charges. In this particular embodiment, the distance between the starting point of the flat charge and the top of the screen (distance e1) is equal to 0.4 charge gauge, and the distance between the front face of the shaped charge and the rear part of the screen (distance e2) is equal to 1.4 charge rating.
A close proximity rocket 10 actuates the detonator 71 via an electrical line not shown.
The detonator 11 has a double output, one is connected directly to the priming device 4 for the flat charge (line 12), the other is connected to the priming device 7 for the hollow charge via a winding 14 (line 13). The leagues 12 and 13 are made in detonating cord having a detonation speed of 7.2 mm / read. The winding 14 makes it possible to obtain a length difference between the lines 12 and 13, the latter being directly proportional to the initiation delay between the two loads A and B.
The operation of this military head is as follows
The proximity proximity rocket 10 detects the target and initiates the detonator 11. The detonation wave travels the lines 12 and 13 and arrives first at the initiation device 4 of the flat charge A which is initiated. A high speed projectile punctures the target, forming a diameter crater with about 0.3 caliber charge. If the objective encountered is an active shield, it is activated. The screen 9 protects the load B from the explosion of the load A and the shell 8 is disaggregated. Charge B is then initiated, and the generated hollow charge jet crosses the crater already formed by the flat charge and completes the perforation of the shielding.
The sufficiently large diameter of the crater practiced by the flat charge makes it possible to avoid shock wave reflections on its walls which have the result of disturbing the jet of hollow charge, and consequently considerably reducing its perforating power.
In this particular case, the gauge used for the two charges is 100 mm. It goes without saying that the military head could also be made up of two charges of different caliber without departing from the scope of the invention.
