Abstract

New device for preventing motor vehicles from rolling back where there are slopes in the roadway. The invention relates to a mechanical device, intended to prevent vehicles from accidentally rolling back. It consists of a free-wheeling cylindrical roller bearing, fixed to the universal shaft and driven by it, which has the characteristic of being able to idle, of locking when the universal shaft goes into reverse and of jamming the wheels of the vehicle. In order to be able to perform manoeuvres in reverse, a cable control system fixed to the gear lever and acting when reverse is selected acts on the bearing by countering the action of the springs and releases the rollers from the wedging ramps and sets the bearing idling in both directions (forward and reverse). The cable control may be manual. The device according to the invention is intended especially for traffic lights in towns, and in hilly terrain.
