Abstract

<P> THE INVENTION CONCERNS A MOUTHPIECE WITH A REED FOR WIND INSTRUMENTS. </P> <P> THE SAID MOUTHPIECE 1 HAS A REED THAT DESCRIBES WITH THE FLAT 8 AN ANGLE OF WHICH IMPORTANCE IS DETERMINING FOR THE OPENING OF BREATH BETWEEN THE END OF THE REED AND THE END OF THE MOUTH 1. THE LATTER HAS A SUPPORT 2 OF THE REED, INCLUDING A FIXED PART 4 AND A MOBILE PART 3. THE REED IS FIXED TO A SUPPORT PLATE 10 INCLUDING THE TILT IN RELATION TO THE FLAT 8 CAN BE MODIFIED THROUGH AN ADJUSTMENT SCREW 17 TO ADJUST THE OPENING OF THE SPOUT. </P> <P> APPLICATION TO ALL TYPES OF WIND INSTRUMENTS. </ P >

Description

 The present invention relates to a reed mouthpiece for a wind instrument, in which the tongue formed by said reed describes with the flat part of the mouth an angle whose importance is decisive for the blast opening between the end from the mouth and the end of the reed.

 In the classic mouthpiece in the form of a beak for a wind instrument, for example a clarinet, a bamboo reed is fixed to a bearing surface of the mouthpiece by means of a coiled link. The oscillating part of the reed which is above the oblique opening of the mouthpiece is used to produce the sounds. The edge of this opening of the mouth is located in a plane which is slightly inclined away from the reed. This plane, called the flat part of the mouth, describes with the reed an angle the importance of which is decisive for the width of the blast opening or the distance between the end of the mouth and the end of the reed.

 The importance of the opening of breath plays a determining role for the quality of the sound produced by the instrument. This is why there are commercially available mouthpieces with different openings and flats. Musicians very often have to buy different mouthpieces and practice for a long time before finding the flat that suits them. Difficulties of the same order arise, however, when it comes to finding bamboo reeds which are suitable for a mouthpiece, since these reeds have a short useful life and they must be constantly replaced.

 The object of the invention is to provide a mouthpiece of the aforementioned type, which overcomes these drawbacks.

According to the essential characteristics of the mouthpiece of the invention, this mouthpiece in the shape of a beak is mu
provided with a reed support comprising a fixed part and
a movable part; the reed is fixed on a plate
supporting the movable part of said support; and an organ
or adjusting screw allows to modify the inclination of
said support plate relative to the flat, in order to
vary the opening of the spout.

A mouthpiece 1 for clarinet, illustrated on
the figures, has a support 2 for a reed,
comprising a support piece 3 and a frame 4. This frame 4
is housed in an upper recess 5 of the mouth and

 The support piece 3 of the reed is connected to the frame 4 on which it can pivot. To this end, a support plate 10 conforming to the shape of the periphery 11 of the frame 4 Rst held in place at the front, in the region of the recess, by a transverse axis 12, the ends of which are wrapped in the rods forming the around 11.

 The support piece 3 of the reed has two stirrups 13 and 14 into which are inserted two fixing screws 15 intended to strongly wedge a reed 16 against the support plate 10. In addition, in the rear stirrup 14, there is an additional adjustment screw 17, a thread 18 of which is screwed into a thickened upper part 19 of the frame 4. The screw 17 is engaged with play in a hole 20 in the rear stirrup 14 and is held in place by a collar 21 and a circlip 22. The adjustment screw 17 makes it possible to raise or lower the rear of the support piece 3 relative to the frame 4. I1 results in a variation of an angle between the reed 16 and the flat 8, which results in the modification of the opening 23 of the spout.

 When the rear of the plate 10 is, for example, lifted by the adjustment screw 17, this results in a narrowing of the opening 23 between the end of the reed and the end of the mouthpiece. We can thus obtain hard reed tones which require a narrow opening. When the rear of the support plate 10 is lowered, this results in an increase in the opening of the spout and it is possible to obtain soft reed tones.

The performer can thus play in continuous tone and simultaneously, by screwing and unscrewing the screw 17, vary the opening 23 of the mouthpiece until he has obtained a sound that is optimally suited to the reed which he chose precisely.

 The principle of a mobile support for the reed can also be embodied by other means, for example by a tapered corner which is slid from behind under said support. The effect of each mechanical solution proposed must however be such that the opening between the end of the mouthpiece and the end of the reed can be modified.

 The mouthpiece described above, whose mouth opening can be modified, applies to all wind instruments with a reed. These wind instruments include all types of clarinets (in B flat, A, C, E), alto clarinet, basset horn, bass clarinet and all types of saxophones.

 It goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to the mouthpiece for wind instruments described and shown, without going beyond the ambit of the invention.

Claims (5)

 1. Reed mouthpiece for wind instruments,
 in which the tongue formed by the reed describes
 with the flat part of the mouth an angle whose importance
 plays a decisive role in the opening of breath
 between the end of the mouthpiece and the end of
 the reed, armhole (1) characterized in that, present
 both the shape of a spout, it is equipped with a support
 (2) of the reed, which comprises a fixed part (4) and a movable part (3); by the fact that the reed (16) is
 fixed on a support plate (10) of the mobile part
