Abstract

The detergent based on essential constituents of washing and analogous prods. is characterised by being in compressed powder formed and being able to dissolve in water by effervescence. The detergent is prepd. by dispensing in a washing powder at least one cpd. able to liberate oxygen on contact with water followed by tabletting the mixt. Pref. effervescence cpds. are alkali or alkaline earth metal persalts or a combination of an alkali metal salt and a weak organic acid, esp. calcium percarbonate and the combination sodium carbonate/citric acid. Exemplified detergent ingredients are sodium alkyl sulphate or sulphonates or alkylarylsulphonates, sodium tripolyphosphate, silicates, carboxyalkylcelluloses, whitening agents, enzymes, deodorants, perfumes and softeners. Using sodium carbonate/ citric acid 2-15 pts. is incorporated in 100 pts. of a detergent compsn. The prod. is a convenient form for use where only small amts. are required, e.g. when travelling, for washing clothes and dishes. It is easy to handle and dissolves rapidly.
